Son's been called up to the S.Korea squad for the Asian Cup in January so he's leaving us after the Man Utd game on January 13.

Hopefully S.Korea get knocked out early.

Damnit, I incorrectly assumed he was he gonna sit that January tournament out.
Not what we need with so many games in this period.

I could have sworn that South Korea agreed not to call him up for this tournament as we released him at the start of the season...did I just make that up? :bored:

I think they agreed not to call him up for the last set of International fixtures in November (before the Chelscum match).

I can’t believe he’s going to miss the whole of January. Didn’t South Korea just play in an Asian trophy at the start of the season. Why’s there another one?

That was the Asian games (Mini Olympics for Asian countries). The tournament in January is a football only tournament like the European Championships.

You made it up

The deal was that SK would not call him up for the November break, and would not call him up for the group stage of the Asian Cup.

I have never seen an occasion where a player misses two different portions of one season due to two different international competitions. Absolutely ridiculous if so.

We didn't have to release him for the asian games, it was our choice and worked out wonderfully.

I would assume Son wants to go and play for his country in the Asia nations cup wouldn't he? I'm not sure he would appreciate being preventrd doing so by the club. It's annoying but taking of my Spurs hat I'd say it seems a fair compromise and everyone is happy(ish)

Being reminded that he's going to be gone in January is really depressing. He is red hot right now, massive shame.
