They are not told to sit back and try and defend- Jose has said it time and time again and the captain has come out and said the manager has not told them to do this
and Jose told us that Toby didn't train in time before the Newcastle game which we all know was a lie. Regardless of if he tells them to or not, Jose rules by fear and the players drop because they're terrified of making a mistake which will mean they're out of the team for weeks on end

And why would they still care about Jose’s fear factor when everyone knows he’s not going to be around soon? This doesn’t make sense to me at this stage when the most he’s going to be here is couple more games probably sooner too

they're not going to put much effort in playing for a manager if they know he's gone. Yes they should be playing for the club but if there's no direction from the manager and it's left to them to motivate themselves then we're not going to get good results. A manager is meant to motivate their players

Yes I would agree if they are not putting effort in but it’s different to the fact that they just did what they had always do which is to sit back and defend the lead. You said that’s because they were terrified of Jose but how can they still be terrified of Jose when he’s not going to be around much longer.

So disappointed with him again yesterday

Has the ability to help take this side to another level but unfortunately cannot step up to be counted when we really need him

It’s no coincidence that our record is much better in the first half compared to the 2nd. He runs out of gas far too often and when the heat is on and we need him he’s nowhere to be seen and more often than not has to be subbed off

Game after game in crucial moments when we need our best players to step up he steps off to sit on the bench!

World class ability with a huge responsibility in this team that he cannot live up to

I have a theory. It's batshit crazy but I'm gonna say it anyway.

I don't think he does run out of gas. I think he goes within himself in the 2nd half because he's just waiting for his number to be held up by the 4th official.

The whole world KNOWS Mourinho is going to take him off. It really is practically guaranteed in the majority of our games.

Professional player or not, that sort of shit is going to mess with your head & it must be so difficult to raise yourself to any level of competitiveness when you know you're dammed if you do, and dammed if you don't.

Never thought about that but makes sense. I'm at the point where I'm just not going to judge any sort of our attacking/flair players anymore about what they're doing under Mourinho unless they've been around longer than that. Bale, Bergwijn, Lo Celso, Ndombele, Reg, Vinicius would all get a clean slate for me this Summer.

What about Winks, Doherty, Sissoko and Dier then? :sneaky:

I'm agreed that it's just so difficult to judge any player right now with the situation the team is in. So, while I've raised a lot of questions about Ndombele and remain unconvinced, all negative thoughts are on hold. We've got to see him under another manager - and that goes for a whole host of players at the club. We could bring in Messi, and I don't think he would look good right now.

While I agree that Ndombele giving the ball away isn't a big issue.

He played 65 passes with a 90% pass rate. That's 6 passes unsuccessful.

I'm not sure we will ever see the best of him in a cm 2. Not in the PL anyway.
Should he play safe like Winks?
It's the Dele Alli argument in some ways... ah he does to many flicks he loses possession but people ain't seeing the benefit of good outweighs bad now look at this team without Dele its damn painful to watch.

Yes he gave the ball away a couple of times, but everyone (usually) does.

What I do want to see from Ndombele is demanding and wanting the ball more.

Dele just needs to learn when and where to try the flicks. Some time he just needs to pass the ball, and it's not just him.

I suppose Doherty is the only one that doesn't fit the criteria but the others (I thought) were mostly crap under Poch as well. Doherty I've seen nothing positive pretty much at all this season. The other 3 are just bad, IMO. Sissoko was a useful player under Poch for a couple years but I don't think he has the legs anymore.

Yesterday he was just a bit frustrating as I don't remember him misplacing too many passes but I do remember him getting caught and tackled from behind a few times so he just needed to shield the ball better or move it quicker. That's the one thing Dembele who he's often compared with did so well, you knew if you were passing to him even under pressure, possession was highly likely to be retained still, which was an underrated trait of him IMO.

There are still certain players I definitely wouldn't write off playing in this Jose side though. Bergwijn is another one who I personally feel could have much more to give in a different setup.

When he first got back in the team I seem to remember him playing 2 90+ minute games in close succession with no problem. IMO, his body language often looks like he's knackered but he isn't. Mourinho seems to love hooking him though.

I love him and think he is so much fun to watch and unpredictable. I just hope we get the chance to build a good midfield and side around him. I really do think he is going to be one of the continent's best players in the not too distant future

I dont see it personally. Does he have flair yes, is he talented yes. Does he affect games anywhere near enough. No.

Fair enough generally I guess. I agree he is not a midfielder who dictates the play or a game thereof for 90 minutes. But I spoke to someone who compared him to Dembeleo ver the weekend in the sense that Demebel could "control" the game. I simply said that playing in the deeper role that Mousa played for us generally he didn't have the creative output that Tanguy did. Ever. So there is a balance.
