It looked like a knee injury the way he was holding it. I feared a minimum of a few months. Hope he's back for Chelsea as they really will test our defence. 3 at the back with Verts, Toby and Dier should be enough to limit their chances.

Wow I was hoping he'd be 100% for Chelski

That's one of the longest minor problem injuries I can remember. And we've had a few!!

From unbeaten to beaten to a pulp.

I said we had a car crash of a defence without him and got a load of disagrees. Looking at last night and the West Ham match, anyone still care to argue the point??

West Ham scored on their only chance plus a penalty. They also created a half chance (Zazas shot). That's pretty solid.
Arsenal created about five decent chances, which isn't too bad, seeing as they're a good side. Leicester created two chances.

It's only in the CL games lately we've been looking shabby defensively, for some reason.

I think it's pretty clear in that statement??

It's not clear at all, he gives no reason as to why it's taking longer other than "It's slow" the scan showed no damage, I can't understand what the issue is here? If there is another issue why not elaborate on it? It just seems strange to me.

He said its nerve damage that's taking longer to heal than expected. There's obviously no date as they have no idea when he will heal.

I suspect he's still in pain and they don't know why. Maybe he needs time off and rehabilitation.

Toby Alderweireld has been ruled out of Tottenham’s London derby against Chelsea on Saturday as he continues to recover from a knee injury.

The Belgian has been sidelined since his side’s 1-1 draw against West Brom last month after an innocuous collision with team-mate Jan Vertonghen. The defender was carried off on a stretcher and has not featured for Spurs since.

Tottenham had hoped Alderweireld would be fit to return for the side’s 3-2 victory over West Ham but the defender missed the Premier League clash, alongside their Champions League fixture against Monaco on Tuesday night.

Speaking after his team's 2-1 defeat in France, Mauricio Pochettino has now confirmed that the 27-year-old will also miss Saturday’s London derby.

The Belgian defender's absence against the league leaders will be a big blow to Spurs, who are looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the season.

Spurs will now be without two of their first team defenders for the visit to Stamford Bridge with Danny Rose currently serving a one-match ban

The England international picked up his fifth yellow card of the campaign against West Ham United last Saturday.

"I'm kicking myself because it was so unnecessary and yeah that (the Chelsea game) was the first fixture I looked out for in the summer and I am gutted that I am going to miss it," Rose said after the game.

"I was aware that I was on four bookings - It was just a stupid foul. I'll be there, either travelling with the team or in with the fans. I'll make sure I am there to support the guys.”

Ben Davies is also another doubt for this Saturday’s game and will likely force Pochettino to rethink his formation for the game against Antonio Conte's team.

It's possible that someone has already posted this, but if so, I reckon it's worth a reminder, amidst all the blame-slinging going on in various threads. We're having problems because the team has been disrupted by injuries and suspensions. And one injury is especially important:

  • We played 10 matches prior to Alderweireld's injury, in which we conceded 5 goals @ 0.5 goals/match.
  • We have played 10 matches since Alderweireld's injury, in which we have conceded 12 goals @ 1.2 goals/match.
  • We kept 6 clean sheets in 10 matches prior to Alderweireld's injury.
  • We have kept 2 clean sheets in 10 matches since Alderweireld's injury.
  • Our results prior to Alderweireld's injury were 7 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss.
  • Our results since Alderweireld's injury have been 1 win, 5 draws and 4 losses.

It's not exactly subtle, is it?

These stats prove how important he is to us (and how damn good he is), though many folks will complain that we're too reliant on one player being so key to our defense.
