The guy played the wrong game. He went back on his word. You don’t do that with Poch. Europe can have him. His advisors been trying to come back to the table, but the horse has bolted

That would explain all the sudden #coys tweets he’s (or his advisors) have been banging out over the last few weeks then.

Sad end to his tottenham career. I support that Poch is taking the moral stance but it would have been nice for to see him in a few games before he left. He's been a great player for us.

think that the collective relies on trust and confidence....those actions, shaking hands and then shifting the goalposts, is the total opposite to everything we know about Pochettino

Very interesting news. Kinda torn. Still falling on the side of Poch though. He has transformed this club.

I'm in the camp that believes Sanchez can be even better than Toby, and I have to admit, after he's ended up getting almost a whole season of PL experience and development without letting us down, I'd be a bit disappointed now if Toby walked back in and dropped him to the bench.

His recovery skills and aerial dominance actually make a great foil for Jan, whereas Toby is quite similar.

On the other hand squad wise it's the chance to have 3 world class CBs in the squad for next season with no outlay aside from wages, which will rise next season for many players regardless. The problem is CB is not a great area for rotation and I'm sure Toby or Sanchez wouldn be happy sitting games out.

Just gonna stick to my gut and hope if he goes it's abroad. We can still progress with or without Toby.

I disagree that Sanchez was his replacement. He was to compliment the CBs so Dier didn’t have to drop back.

Yeah I think he was a long term plan and came in knowing he'd play in a back 3 but also spend time on the bench while he developed and acclimatised. There probably was some thinking re Toby but that's sound strategy. I'm sure we went into those talks thinking he'd sign.

Thing is now Davinson is probably less likely to accept going backwards and being back up. Yes he has some rough edges to round off still but his upside is huge.

Things have just moved on, and it seems burning Poch is the real issue rather than the high wage demands now anyway.

Before Toby arrived, we were awful defensively. He really did transform our defence. Him and Jan were the best partnership of my lifetime, they were telepathic.

I really hope the fans get a chance to say goodbye.

Best of luck Tobias! (providing you don't join Chelsea!)

Don’t care how one spins it, loosing Walker and a Toby in two consecutive seasons is awful business for a team trying to compete against the elite. We will be worse of without him. Such a shame.

Some of our fans have turned into Arsenal supporters.

Happy to accept top 4 and a decent run in the CL.

Does losing Alderweireld narrow the gap on City & Juventus?

We should be aiming for the PL and CL.

People are realistic, players leave, no matter who you are. There's only 2/3 teams in world football that have total control, in that their best players never want to leave. Getting to that level will take 30-40 years of world class history ala Madrid, Bayern, United.

Even bayern and united players leave for the big 2 spanish clubs. It doesn't change the fact that we say we won't sell players and then continually do so. People get annoyed at the media for selling off our team to the bigger clubs but who can really blame them when we actually do it. Berbatov, bale, modric, walker and now toby. Rose might go too. A player isn't going to change his mind if the manager basically kicks him out. I don't agree with poch's methods at all.

He's a silly boy.

Yes, it was always likely that he could do better than us, and at his age everyone expected he would be with us short term to be off at some point in order to have a push at winning things.

But to mess Poch around in the season before a World Cup?

Silly boy.

He doesn't really want the big money, he wants to go, but he'd have been much better off keeping his mouth shut and his powder dry this season and playing every week, having a great World Cup to put himself in the thoughts of the biggest clubs and telling us he wanted to go in the summer.

There's a way to play the game and Toby's chosen the wrong way.

He's obviously been totally ostracised like Walker was and is now regretting it as he's completely frozen out of all football, and can no doubt feel it on the training ground as well. I bet his actions haven't gone down that brilliantly with some of the more committed players, either.

BTW, I don't believe a single word Poch said in his press conference. We all know how he operates, as does the press and people in the game. He even explicitly told us when he described the Walker situation in his book.

A sad and unnecessary situation. But we move on - he must be sold outside the PL.

Not this shit again. If a player wants to leave us, we have no choice. They usually leave for money. We can’t compete with that. We can’t force a player to stay as that disrupts the rest of the squad. Every club is a selling club. Even RM or Barca will sell to PSG. We only sell players now that Poch doesn’t want.

And IMO, Toby and Rose are welcome to leave. We have already moved on from both of them. They will not be missed as has been proved.

Think we've done pretty well without him so far personally.

Losing Walker wasn't too bad but losing Toby is a big blow. He's a monster defender and anywhere he has gone has made the defence the top 2 in the league every time. When he joined us we had the 5th worst defence in the league and all of a sudden we are the best. He was the best centre back in the league for a few seasons.

I really hope he has a season at the new stadium. Toby really made me appreciate defending when I never really took any notice.

Also remember that Davies can play LCB in a back 3, and that Wanyama can play CB in emergencies. I personally would only spend significant funds on a CB if Poch wants to play 3 CBs the majority of the time. The return of Lamela, the signing of Moura, and Son progressing again this season all point to us playing 4-2-3-1 for the foreseeable future.

Losing a fully fit, fully focussed, on form Toby is a massive blow, but that's already happened. What we'd be losing at the end of the season if he goes now, is a player who whilst injured found the lure of more money elsewhere too tempting and hasn't been able to win his place in the team back from a 21 year old playing his first season in the league. We've already been without him for the best part of 6 months. We're unbeaten in the league in 2018, we're not really missing him all that much right now.
