Has he? Can't remember those. Good deal if he has, will come in handy. He did surge forward a few times in the Cup game vs. Leicester.

I think he attributes the year under Simeone at Atletico as vital towards his growth as a player.I think I remember reading these forums and seeing Alderweireld being linked to us before he went to Atletico Madrid. It make me wonder what would have happened if he and Jan were at Spurs from 2013 onwards?
Did we miss out majorly or did the journey to get here make him? Would Vertonghen's form have been at the level it is now a few seasons ago (I think he had a great first season and a bit but stagnated a little until teaming up with Alderweireld).
Anyway... I know the season's not over but for the price paid for him he's been a bargain buy.
ok, but i don't agree. dier is better now and the gap will be even bigger in a few years time, he needs games, not time. i don't know what it is with this site thinking every southampton player would walk into our team, i sometimes wonder whether i'm living in an alternate universe where they didn't actually finish below us. dier is bigger, faster, stronger, more aggressive and much more comfortable on the ball. alderweireld and vertonghen is such a meek and feeble pairing, they won't last long. as @ILS said, there's a reason these two get shunted out to full back for the national team and that's because they can't cope physically. i'm not sure if alderweireld is even better than fazio either, the latter proved he could actually hack it in la liga for a start ... he's also captained a team to a european trophy, alderweireld hasn't done anything but as always he gets hyped up way beyond his ability because he's new and shiny.
Some of the replies to this thread during the speculation were insanity. Genuinely had Alderweireld in my team of the season last year before we were even linked, and couldn't comprehend some of the opinions in here.sorry but just going through old stuff and saw this and found It hysterical.
Love this guy he is the consummate professional and plays for the shirt and the guys!http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...tml?ITO=1490&ns_mchannel=rss&ns_campaign=1490

Tottenham's stealthy rise into the top three is built on a philosophy without heroes, according to Toby Alderweireld.
Spurs have young England internationals like Harry Kane and Dele Alli scoring goals and making headlines.
But Mauricio Pochettino is proud of the unity which is a hallmark of his teams and it has transformed them into genuine contenders for a place in the Champions League next season.
'The most important thing is we have no heroes,' said Alderweireld. 'We have a team with a lot of quality that wants to improve. So it's important everybody works so hard for each other.
'When one makes a mistake, the other one picks it up. We have togetherness. We want to achieve something this season and I think you can see that on the pitch.
'There is a good confidence and self-belief – not arrogance – that we can beat everybody. If we work hard and put the effort in like we do every week, we are confident that we can beat every team.
'It is self-belief not arrogance. We know if we don't put the effort in, we are a normal team. Put that effort in and that can make a difference. We have quality and young guys who are eager to make the difference.'
This has been evident on their travels, and Tottenham are unbeaten away from home in the Premier League since the opening day of the Premier League campaign.
They have played four away games on the spin, winning them all and scoring 12, and Pochettino has made it clear that anyone failing to commit can move on.
'A lot of guys have left the club,' said Alderweireld. 'He only wants guys who work very hard. If you don't follow that path, you don't belong in Tottenham. Physically we are 100 per cent. We can run all game and that is the way we want to play.'

I can't help but love the bloke. He's just brilliant.
How would everyone compare him to King? Do we have a better defender on our hands?

He is good. Almost as good as Vertonghen, who obviously is even better.
