Why change a winning side.

Dier Dembele was a winning team last season.

None of them lost their place because of them playing badly. Dembele was suspended and Dier used instead of Toby.

You have to be able to adapt to other teams changing. What was good last season will not necessarily work this season. Most teams have improved and now we have Manchester United and Chelsea to contend with.

See Leicester City.
Though them trying to change could have a lot to do with it.

I personally think that when he's on form, Dier is a better fit for us. He drops into CB better than Wanyama and seems more disciplined in the holding role. He can pick a pass and score a goal as well. I know Wanyama has chipped in with a few but I still think Dier is more of a threat, especially from set pieces. But the crucial part is 'when he's on form', and he hasn't been in good form since the Euros.

Can we stop having blinkers on please. I love Dier, but both on top form in the same position, there should be no arguments. Wanyama is a natural in that position.

To be honest with you I can understand those who would prefer Dier over Wanyama to some extent, I think Dier would help us move the ball a little quicker between the lines but I'd say Wanyama trumps him in every other aspect personally.

Can only assume that you didn't bother to read my post above before disagreeing with it. I have nothing whatsoever against Wanyama, but I said that when Dier is 'on form', he's a better fit in the way we play, but he's currently not on form. When Wanyama can reliably drop in between the CBs, focus his game on shielding the back line, be dangerous from set plays and not miss sitters from 3 yards like he did the other day, I'll probably change my mind.

And we dont win with Dier in DM? Were you living under a rock last year? Horrible post.

We have more points his season so far, I'll use that as my metric to form my opinion (y)

And well, my house is made of stone, so living under a rock, living inside a rock... Who knows? You're on the right track though :sneaky:

What bothers me about that article is a few points such as this.

"Wanyama is not quite as technically accomplished as Dier, and his passing is not always as quick and incisive, It can slow Spurs down on occasions, but the differences are subtle."

So he isn't as technically accomplished as him and his passing isn't always as quick and incisive (two very important traits in this side and league in general) and it can slow us down but the differences are subtle? I would say that's anything but subtle.

"In fact, the stats show Wanyama rarely wastes a pass. His success rate of 87.8 per cent is only bettered by Mousa Dembele and Harry Winks at Spurs, and it also compares favourably to Dier's 83.3 per cent success rate last season. He may not be quite as adventurous - he certainly makes fewer long passes - but his distribution is generally reliable."

What those stats fail to show is the majority of Wanyama's passes are sidewards and backwards, not difficult to rarely waste a pass when they are all safe passes is it?

The comparison between him and Dier and their pass success rate is void because Dier makes more risky passes, hence why he is a better fit for our creativity going forward.

We miss that adventure from midfield in my opinion and I personally feel Dier is a better overall player than Wanyama but that's just personal opinion, I think Wanyama is a good player but he isn't as good as Dier as a holding mid and he isn't as disciplined.

Of course people will disagree and that's fine, I just wish Poch would rotate them both for different games, they have different skills sets and against the tougher sides like Chelsea, United, City I think Dier would be better suited personally, I don't think it's any shock that we have a worse record so far against the teams above us than last year.
