I like Wanyama, he's technically better than a lot of people are giving him credit for. He's composed with players around him and I've seen him play plenty deft/clever passes. He's definitely got a physicality and prescience about him. Maybe he lacks a bit of mobility up and down the pitch but then dier's not an up and down the pitch kind of player either. Last year of his contract. This could make sense.

Excellent post...but who is Dendoncker?

I wouldn't be disappointed if we got Wanyama and I'd have been overjoyed to have signed him in the summer before Dier emerged as a proper talent. Dendoncker though, IMO, is a much better footballer and could cover Dier (dropping into CB when we have possession) and Dembele. Wanayama could pretty much do what Dier does but I don't see him as much of a ball carrier or passer.

Has there been any link to Dendoncker at all? Keep hearing the name come up but can't remember him ever getting linked...

From what I understand, Dendoncker is not a passer at all, he is your typical destroyer with not passing skills to his game. He is also a bit error prone. Hence he would only be a choice instead of Dier, but not a good substitute for Dembele. Wanyama would be a very rational, albeit not exciting choice in the same Dier/Dendocker mould, IMO.

the question is, is wanyama an upgrade on bentelab?
Well, what do you mean by upgrade? He is 1000% a better fit to do the job Dier does than what Bentaleb can ever come close to. But you wouldn't necessarily use Bentaleb in the same way as Dier in the first place. Wanyama (or a player like him) would be filling a void in the squad, namely the void left when Dier is not an option (which with CL is a very important issue, as witnessed by the Dortmund matches).

Should we not be trying to sign players to compete directly with our best 11 and not replace players on our bench? If this happened automatically the bench improves...if we had, for example a Witsel to replace or compete with Dier or Dembele the team will grow and improve, surly this is what Poch will be striving to do?

Why not someone good though, rather than Witselinho?

He's not fit to tie Bentaleb's laces. He's a big lump that gets in the way, but doesn't have any of Bentaleb's intelligence, technique or energy.

Although he can tackle, position himself properly, track runners, mark, keep his concentration, break play up, defend at set pieces and not bottle out of challenges and blocks. So it's not as clear cut as you seem to think.

Well, in this specific case, we have 1 player in the entire squad who can do what Dier does. We don't even have a remote option to deploy when Dier can't play. So it's not about replacing players on the bench, it's about having someone, anyone, who can come close to duplicate that effort.

@Nigel Spinal I have no idea what your exact agenda is (whether you know one of our CMs well, are in love with one of our CMs, or indeed are one of them your self), but your posts would quadruple in validity if they weren't so over the top biased.

both very diff players, my opinion many playrs are better than bentaleb, he needs to prove is so called potential quick time, but Wanyama is far mor a Def player than Bentaleb, Nabil fro mr is now way a DM, a CM with protection of Dier then yes.

I think the question should be, is Wanyama better than Axel witzel.
I know which player i'd rather have.

Wanyama has shown he can do a competent job in a top level league. Witsel's only ever played in 3rd rate leagues. Wanyama will be 1/3 price and 1/3 of the salary too. I don't rate either, but Wanyama would be the least worse of those two.
