Kane's last 4 performances for us have been as ineffectual as Janssen earlier in the season. The team is just not playing well at present and we are not creating enough chances for our main striker.

I really do think that Janssen is a decent striker. He's not as good as Kane and he's not world class. If he was he'd have cost £40m not £17m but I think that as a reserve striker who can lead the line and hold the ball up he shows promise. He is also still young and can improve.

I really hope he starts tomorrow and even more that he scores from open play and then let's see where that takes him.

With Rose and Vertonghen returning and Kane being injured, he really has to be tried in the 3-5-2. I think only then we will be able to make a complete judgement on him, if he can't be effective in our most effective formation then I really think it's going to be incredibly difficult to see him making it at all.

We all need to hope he starts to show something.

And yet he'll start Sissoko?
Hey, you know that I'm as much on the "Sissoko was an abomination of a signing" train as you are. But he's still getting more minutes than Janssen (even though Sissoko is far from a regular starter) despite Kane's current poor form, so - regardless of what anyone else thinks of the decision - what does that say about Pochettino's confidence in Janssen at the moment?

I have absolutely no idea what Poch is thinking to be honest. No idea why he's ostracising Janssen - i don't think he's been anywhere near as catastrophic as some do, as for Sissoko, and some of Poch's previously influenced signings, I think he is a great coach but I wouldn't want him in charge of my scouting or recruitment dept.

Asked if Janssen would play against Championship club Fulham at Craven Cottage tomorrow, Pochettino said: “Maybe, maybe. He was out of the squad [against Gent] – he needs to show more and we’ll see. Maybe he will have the opportunity to be on the bench or play. Today we cannot be sure if he will be in the squad, on the bench or start from the beginning.

“Performance is always about how the players show their quality, their belief on the training ground. When you select the starting XI and the bench, I try to be fair. It’s normal that maybe he needs to show more.”

He might as well pack his bags now.

It's crazy that we have only two (2) strikers in the first place, let alone that one of them can't even make the bench.

I honestly believe Janssen and Kane are very similar. Janssen has very little confidence and is settling into the league but I honestly think if Janssen gets enough game time to get a few goals the gap in perception between them will lessen.

This season we have seen a few performances from Kane that are every bit as ineffectual as Janssen's. As good as we are right now it's clear to see we have the unfortunate ability to fail to function as an attacking force in games leaving the single striker to look hopeless. I really do think Janssen has suffered due to a collective failure of creativity throughout the team.

maybe in terms of physical appearance but ability wise so so so so different. Kane actually has a touch and can run with the ball

Let's face it both Janssen and Sissoko were both at the very best second choices - we obviously couldn't attract/pay for who we wanted. So we shouldn't be surprised they're not delivering at level we should expect.

i guess that's the problem - the fact they were on anyone at the club's scouting reports is unacceptable

We don't only have two striker though. We have One clear first choice striker, one clear - purchased for the purpose of back up striker. We also have Son, who was purchased because he can play as a striker, as a wide auxiliary forward and wide AM. We also have (had) Harrison as a potential 4th choice.

In a team that plays a one striker system that's pretty normal. Chelsea have two recognised strikers. ManC Aguero and the kid Iheanacho. Arsenal Giroud as the only real pure 9 and Sanchez, Walcott, Welbeck who can play there but are versatile. Liverpool have Origi and Sturridge.

Even for big teams it's hard to keep more than one main top striker happy

Sounds like Poch has finally publically mentioned that Janssen needs to do better. It's definitely the first time he's said it and also it sounds like he wasn't in the 18 for Gent because he hadn't performed well enough. The player must be really struggling now. I'd like to keep him in the summer because of his age but maybe try and loan him out. Although we might need to recoup the money to sign a replacement.

So does Sissoko but he seems to get chance after chance.

I still feel like that Janssen has essentially been toast with Poch since he got the hook for Alli an hour into that Villa game in the cup. Writing has been on the wall since then IMO.

I thought he just said that he'd played him more than he'd of liked and that the player was still trying hard and training well. These comments seem to suggest his training hasn't been at the required level. That's not a surprise though, he must be having confidence issues.

I wouldn't mind trying him up top with Kane when/if we return to 352. Trouble is that means dropping Dele deeper which reduces his effectiveness.
