I would say build our midfield around Bentancur and include Bissouma ahead of Skipp or PEH as his partner.
Unfortunately don’t think we’ll see much of Bentancur until 2024. Think we should still be adding to the squad to find quality to play alongside Bissouma and then Bentancur can add additional quality when he is ready. Watching PEH constantly pass into trouble or Skipp making simple passes but still lacking the required quality is painful. Don’t think we can start the season with either as first choice.

I thought he looked sharp when he came on. Playing without the shackles, I’ve always believed he would come good, too much quality (and with age on his side) to just be bang average. We still need a creative player, but I think someone said above, a midfield three of Bissouma, Bentancur and Maddison would be great to see.

Was just going to post similar. If he’s is that good what did he do/say to Conte to rarely play
I thought he was being told he needed to work on patterns of play before he could get into the 1st team then after that he was injured for quite a while.

Does that mean Hojbjerg and Skipp were well versed in those patterns of play?
If so I don't think I want to see those again. (If I ever did see them)

For me, if players are told where to be in every circumstance and what to do when there then it kills all creativity and sucks any joy or life out of playing/ watching football.

Like playing with the handbrake on our constantly having to think 'am I in the right place,?'

Such a weird situation with Conte and Bissouma.
He’s been one of the best midfielders in the league for a couple of years but Conte didn’t seem to fancy him.

I think he’ll be class for us next season.

Always looked to me like he was just fundamentally ill-suited to Conte's prescripted style of build up and passing. Presumably Conte also saw this in his performances and training, hence he rarely played. If you don't (try to) do exactly what Conte wants on the pitch, you don't play.

Whenever he played this season under Conte he looked like was constantly playing within himself and second-guessing every pass and movement. A compete contrast to the player he was at Brighton where he looked effortlessly good every time I watched him.

This was also obvious from his stats which dropped off a cliff this season compared to his last 3 years at Brighton. Under the right manager next season he'll be a player reborn I think.

It’s not so weird. Conte isn’t a very good coach. He’s a manager that has been successful with very good squads. I like Bissouma, and any decent coach will get a tune out of him.

We were told he was struggling with Conte's system. By the time Conte was OK with giving him a game he looked 25% of the player we all knew he was. Fucking ridiculous when you think about it. Hopefully he gets plenty of minutes now Mason has apparently taken the shackles off and he's fit again.

Yup. He’s just a very inflexible coach. Which is stupid really. Not the right guy for us.

Think Yves will be good next year

Ahhh, good call - I totally blanked on him needing more time to recover. I think they best we'll see is signing a creative AM like Maddison, GLC being re-integrated into the team and maybe Harvey White having a place as well. Leaving us with Bissouma, Bentancur, Sarr, Skipp, PEH, Maddison, GLC, White as our CM/AM options.

Skipp only started getting starts when Bissouma and Bentancur were injured.

Have to wonder if his crazy fitness regime in preseason fucked Bissouma and a couple of others.
I think this is probably the case. Way too much cardio work pre-season (and from what i can tell, midweek between matches also) has led to so many injuries this season to key players. I'm just surprised that Kane hasn't pulled up with an ankle issue as a result.
