Some of the vilification on here and match thread has been a tad harsh. He’s been unreal for us this season. So, what? He made a mistake. That should not diminish all of the good. For those who are miffed, give him a break. He will learn from this and be better for the lesson.

I don't think it's just the two yellows. It's what that second yellow was for. It was pathetic of him even if he wasn't booked already. We'd rightly call out opposition players for it and so we should call out our own as well.

That said, it doesn't justify any abuse racial or otherwise.

Yeah it was a bad error of judgement in the moment, on his part.

That's it. I'm sure Ange will have a word and move on.

Don't think there's any need to over analyse it.

Nothing irritates me more than being booked for dissent. It’s a shame player who never complain aren’t treated better by the referees but that’s the world we live in

As has been said already, he displayed really poor decision making today for both bookings, the first booking was unnecessary and resulted from a couple of sloppy passes by others going astray and the second was so much worse when he knew he was already on a yellow, in much the same way that Jota knew he shouldn't have made the second tackle in the way he did. Balanced against that he's had an excellent season and has come on leaps and bounds under Ange.

I hope and suspect that if it's not happened already, he's called into the office for a one on one with Ange and Ange will tell him in no uncertain terms that as well as he's been doing he still has areas to improve on I.e. decision making that cuts down on needless bookings, he should already know that his actions could have been the catalyst for us unnecessarily dropping points in a game we were well in control of and but for poor finishing should have been out of sight on.

He seems to look up to Ange and I'm sure he will balance the right firm but fair words of wisdom that Bissouma will take on board and we move on swiftly......

Yeah it was what he did more than the outcome that annoyed me most, on top of already getting another pointless booking earlier in the game.

I’d have more sympathy for him if the bookings he was picking up were the kind that helps the team, digs us out of tricky situations or stops goal scoring chances. But many of his bookings have been for the kind of fouls he just doesn’t need to commit, a few for dissent too. The dive yesterday just put a cherry on top of what’s been an immature disciplinary record for him this season.

He needs to improve on this.

I understood him taking the first one even with it being a 5th booking. He stopped a counter. Players do that. But to then dive like he did whilst already on a yellow it just screamed idiocy.

He has the international break to stew on it now and hopefully he comes back better learning from it.

I agree, although I wonder if it’s now just so natural for players to simulate, that he did it without really thinking in the heat of the moment. It stood out as being a particularly “bad dive” but maybe at speed he goes down expecting to be clipped. If there’s any contact it doesn’t look as bad but because there’s no contact it looks awful.

We regularly see players playing for contact in those situations, it’s just they usually do a better job of it. Kane certainly won free kicks and penalties in the past playing for contact.

It was stupid of Biss ( being on a yellow) and he made a mess of it but I can see where he was coming from. Hopefully some of the silly yellows that he picks up will be something that is ironed out of his game.

He's been unreal this season so we let him off this for sure but definitely silly booking as most of his have been this season so hopefully he will learn from this but not the worst game or 2x games for PEH to fill in.

Think I'd prefer Skipp filling in. Hojbjerg trying to take the ball on the half turn at 6 doesn't fill me with any sort of confidence tbh.

Totally agree.

I remember Kane in 2015 against Chelsea at the lane.

Played for contact and won the pen...he was playing for that all day long...but he was good at it

Townsend took the resulting penalty.

I was fuming at his 2nd yellow and I am also wondering if all the yellows are a sign of a more underlying issue - either with him personally or the role he is being asked to play (can he perform it well enough without all the fouls?).

Having said all that, he didn't start appealing for anything. So does that mean when a player goes to ground and he has not been touched it is an automatic yellow now?

His first foul always seems to be a yellow. This season has felt we’ve got more yellows than the oppo for equivalent fouls. How many did Luton get away with in the first half, loads. Stupid for the second one though
Bissouma helps to top this up with his silly yellow cards, not many mistimed tackles but dissent and cheats fouls.

Football can be a cynical game. He went through three players and expected to draw contact. It happens. It came during a period where we were chasing the game; almost overplaying. Had Richarlison taken his chances, I don’t think the dive happens.

Nah, Bissouma diving was not Richarlison's fault.

I'm actually really glad it happened
It means Ange can use this situation as a (much-needed) learning opportunity for the whole team (some of whom give away needless free-kicks and subsequent yellow cards). They need to be challenged as to why they're dong this, rather than giving them away on autopilot and as a result of poor past habits.

There needs to be a mind-shift in the players....and Ange is the right guy to deliver that. The timing is good...and hopefully the whole squad learn and grow - without these lapses costing us too much.
