Reading Harry Redknapps book he mentioned we missed out on Slaven Bilić who at the time had a release of £3.5m but contract was worded badly so he couldn't leave unless West Ham wanted to sell...year later he went to Everton.

Then Sherwood came out and said he knew about him, he was recommended to him and we could have gone for him but we had other irons in the fire. Those two irons turned out to be Dempsey and Sig ( for £14m as opposed to the £2m Michu cost )
Within two months of that season it was obvious to everyone that our scouts had dropped a proper clanger! Sherwood basically admitting he chose Sig and or Dempsey over Michu should mean he lost his job and never found work in the game again!
