Unsurprisingly, he did not actually say what is in the headline. The crucial word 'only' has been edited out.

Spurs is not about the money for me either, I've so much in common with Poch and the current players.

Please don't be too envious of me.

There is those that play purely for money....
And those that love the game AND get paid to do it.

I always respected Ekotto for openly saying that football is only a job to him. For some reason football players get crucified for something that is universally true to some 90% of the population. Most people just do their job, they do it bloody well, but there is no love there.
IMO the jobs that should also be a calling are teachers, doctors, nurses, police, soldiers, firefighters and such. Football players are athletes - they need discipline first and foremost. Passion helps but isn't essential.
Again, my opinion.

Had the ring of truth when we were building a team of our own.
But with the mounting pressures of Premiership and CL;
the buying in of journeymen players who can do a job;
the apparent limited opportunities for any of our own
and the selling of same
the vision is beginning to dim.
I would love this to be true but sadly a romantic dream
which I am happy to share
but I am not quite senile enough to believe in.
