I'm interested in how this breaks down among the members of Spurs Community. Simple enough, should we sign Beckham or not?

No brainer to me. He's experienced, can still deliver a great cross, could help Lennon and is professional (i.e. will not become a sideshow). All in all, nothing really to lose.

Yes....and makes good sense to me.
Will cover lennon or if need be replace him (gives us the option in a game)
With bentley going/wanting to go.....this is a no brainer.
Will also give a massive boost around the place and more of that winning mentality.
I honestly believe there is alot more +'s signing him than not.

No thanks. We have enough midfielders to try and keep happy without bringing him in.

Our game is all about speed on the break. Beckham doesn't provide that.

I never rated Beckham. He has got to be the most overrated player in history. Milan, Madrid and Galaxy bought him for off-field benefits. Englishmen in this forum will disagree with me, because to you lot, he is a world-famous Englishman and thus u cannot see beyond that. Now if he was a French with the exact ability (or lack of), you would sing a different tune.

1. He will become a 'distraction' only if the club, fans and squad let the situation become one. He wasn't one at Milan on loan because Milan is a professional club and the fans / players saw it for what it was; a mutually beneficial short term arrangement.
2. He will not slow our game down because he is very unlikely to start PL or even CL games. His playing role would be retaining possession and holding right / centre midfield in the final 10-20 minutes of games, a job he is probably still qualified to do.
3. At a minimum he will get the fitness training and off season he needs, and Spurs will get an experienced and professional old head around the place. He lives nearby and I'm sure the financial deal will not be onerous if we go ahead (I suspect the main difficulty would be insurance, and maybe division of commercial rights).
4. Beckham's image could only help Spurs marketing internationally. It's quite clear that outside UK and our modest Scandinavian / Asian franchises, we had become largely unknown or forgotten, hence the surprise in Europe, Africa, Middle East at our CL performances, playing squad, tradition and history. It's not about selling a couple of months worth of Beckham white shirts in North London. Almost all the overseas fans of English clubs support a Sky 'Big 4' Club and Beckham would make a large number of 'new' fans give us a second glance. Like it or not, a large foreigh fanbase is one of the things that defines a big Club. We want to be one.

Appalling idea . Our team morale is just fine thankyou . 7 years since he knew the hurly burly of the Prem . At 35 he is not going to adapt quickly .

and the press circus will be horrendous . Add to this all the arguments put forward on the bbc by the pres of the Spurs fanclub .

NO. We already have a balanced mid-field. Harry might be tempted to start Beck as a favour, which could prove costly. Instead of helping, he may be a disruption to the team. In 1970, Man City bought Rodney Marsh, and the balance and harmony of the squad fell apart. A striker, that's a different story.

One factor I haven't seen mentioned is if you took Lennon out and put Becks in, we could be left with an extremely slow side!

Gomes

Hutton Dawson Gallas BAE

Becks Modric Hudd Bale

VDV Croach

The full backs are decently paced, that Bale is a bit nippy, but apart from that...well! What I'm saying is we can't afford another slowbie in our team. We seem to have a rep as a pacy side; but the above team will look like an old black and white team running through treacle.
