I have mentioned this in a previous thread - please lets not look in Portugal for any players because they will cost an absolute fortune and they are not worth the money!
FFS we spent £3.5 million on Rocha and just look at the money United paid for Anderson(not worth it) and today Chelsea have paid over the top for Bosingwa from Porto!
Forget the Veloso's,the Quaresmas and the Gonzales because they will cost an arm and a leg!
My advice is to steer well clear of Portugal for our transfers this summer!

well, that's your thoughts...
personally i think he's been great for them, and given its age he could turn into a major player..

I think 17 million was a bit much for this guy and I don't think he will be at United in 2/3 years time!
But you are right - that just my opinion!

I have to admit that I have'nt seen enough to be convinced about Veloso - I will watch him like a hawk in the summer though!
However I do like Gonzales - he is very good!

I think the problem here isn't Portuguese players as much as our history with them. They can obviously be amazing.....when at Chelsea or United. But we have Postiga, Mendes (who never got a chance) and Rocha.

Id like to still have mendes at spurs! Never expected much from rocha, and neither does wendy obviously!

Postiga was the major flop yes, but he was only young when we got him and he didnt get much of a chance, gosh only 19 apps!

We're due a good one then arent we!

Anderson is one of the highest rated Brazilian midfielders of his age and was raved about in Brazil when he was at Porto.

I guess Ronaldo was also a bad buy, as was Deco and Carvalho............:bang:

I'd say Ronny Rosenthal is probably the UK based agent who, in terms of numbers, represents the most Portuguese based players - I know for a fact he has a hell of a lot of young, talented, Portuguese kids on his books.

Incidentally, Ronny was in the directors' box for the Liverpool game - make of that what you will. He wouldn't let on whether he was here on business or just watching two of his former employers play though.

FFS we spent £3.5 million on Rocha Who has not been given the chance to prove anything and just look at the money United paid for Anderson(not worth it)Your opinion but the fact that you think so questions your knowledge / judgement, where everyone else would pay the same amount to have him in their team and by the way he is Brazilian, not Portuguese and today Chelsea have paid over the top for Bosingwa from Porto! How do you know, Considering he hasnt even kicked a ball for Chelseas yet?
Forget the Veloso's,the Quaresmas and the Gonzales because they will cost an arm and a leg!
My advice is to steer well clear of Portugal for our transfers this summer!Yeah, those at Chelsea and Manu including Ronaldo as are all crap

I think a rethink of your post is warranted

Sorry lads but I do know that Anderson is Brazilian however they bought him from Porto which is in PORTUGAL!
The post is not about the nationality of players or how good they are - just that buying players from teams in Portugal is very very expensive and Spurs should look elsewhere for better value!
As I already mentioned - I don't particularly rate Anderson,£17 million way too much,I don't think he will be in Uniteds team in 2/3 years time but thats just my opinion.
I don't listen to other peoples opinions on players, only on what I see and so far I have'nt been impressed!

erm i think that is one of the craziest posts i've read in a while .. C.Ronaldo, Nani, Anderson, Carvalho .. not to mention Veloso, Quaresma, Simao. There's lots of great players over there and sure they may be a bit pricey but i dnt think the united fans think it's been a waste. Anderson and Nani have both played well this season

Exactly, and further to the argument, if you look at the wider picture, even if one thinks that they may be pricey, they also bring additional revenue to the club through endorsements, sponsorship etc, when they are marketable as Ronaldo and others have been.

First of all: there is a diffence between playing in Portugal and being Portuguese. Anderson is Brazilian and Lucho Gonzalez is Argentinian.
Besides, if ManU had offered Anderson to Spurs for the £18m they paid for him I'd be happy if Spurs took him.
Agree that some of their players are priced (way) too high, but you have to blame Hod & co. for going after Postiga and Jol/Comolli for thinking Rocha would tighten Spurs' defense.
And at least let Bosingwa play half a season at Chelski before calling him a waste of money.
