This has been a very, very good preseason. The squad looks very unified and organized. The play on the field has already surpassed my expectations. I am sure that I am not the only one who is feeling more optimistic than I was prior to the preseason.

So, I am curious what everyone is expecting of the squad this season, now that we are indeed moving into the start of the competitive season.

Certainly not expecting top 4. What I'd love to see is a return to entertaining football, and an improved atmosphere at the Lane.

I think the starting line-up had just the one arrival - Davies - in it. I was surprised Vorm didn't get some game time but overall the players from last season already look more purposeful and organised. We still have several first teamers to come in too.

We've seen marked improvement in Lennon, Townsend, Lamela, Rose and Naughton. Kaboul seems to be returning to at least 80% of his previous best. What a good coach Poch is.

I'm expecting to be right on the cusp of the 5th/6th conversation. I see Everton falling back a bit as I don't think they can rely on players like Osman and Barry to the extent that they did for 2 seasons in a row. Also, no Delofeu.

I think we're going to be a fun team to watch and probably put together a season that leaves not only us as fans excited for the future under Pochettino, but also the media and the league thinking we could be real threats come next season.

My hope is that we show great improvement in consistency. It's one of the things we have seemed to lack for so long but if we can pick up 3 points from teams we definitely should be beating, then it'll go a long way to helping our prospects of becoming relevant for Top 4 again. And, with this style of play we are showing, I think we will be able to break down a lot of those teams we previously had problems with.

I hope we win the Europa and put up a good fight in the C.O.C. and FA Cup. The squad is deep enough and even if we use those matches to get fringe players match minutes, a backup XI will be able to see success in all of those competitions in my opinion.

I have been impressed by us so far, do not think we will make the top four ( not that bothered about that) but i would love to see us win something and i can see us doing that if we keep progressing.

I like the look of our team, i feel its more balance, and the team is more cohesive.

Still think we lack that world class finisher... With style of football poch has us playing, we do need to take our chances cause with the high line, we are gonna be caught out a few times during a match, especially against better teams. We need to make our chances count.

Still every season i am optimistic we can sneak into the forth spot. Hopeful of a memorable season.

Good to see the majority of the people are quite realistic with regards to our expectations. There is no way we can compare with Citeh, ManUre, Chel$ki or even the wages of l'Arsanal or the Bindippers these days.
Based on the fees and wages we are able to afford, fifth place is what we should expect. If we were to have a fantastic season, our players who overperformed would only be subject to transfers off the back of the good season, and Levy knows it.
I am quite sure Spurs will never win another league title whilst the economic systems in place in today's football are such.

5th, the best we can get.

Last season we got these results against teams outside the top 4:
Played 30
Won 21
Drew 5
Lost 4 - lost to norwich, newcastle and west ham x2
Points 68

Record against top 4:
Played 8
Won 0
Drew 1
Lost 7
Points 1 - no team got less points than us

Im expecting 6th but last season was the worst performances I think I seen since 2006 or before.

I seen people say this is another transition season but the same was said last year after bale left and Timmy was in charge so I don't think we should accept any worse.

For me its not points thats important but the performance and there should be a philosophy or a plan for the team(which looks like it is happening)

However if Timmy and AVB were as bad as I/we think they were then Poch should be achieve a higher points total and probably the highest ever, which sounds crazy because then we will going for a top 4 place and my head says we shouldn't be there and don't do it to yourself!!!!

We have had good pre seasons before and gone on to play badly in the first few games. Pre season means nothing; its training.

Beating West Ham would do our confidence the world of good and set us up nicely to be there or thereabouts after the first 10 games. We'll see won't we.

3rd game against liverpool will be a good early benchmark.

as per what beats1 was saying, we only need to improve on our return / performances against top 4... and i reckon we can... i thinking chavs will win the league but the other 3 spots are up for grads amongst 5 other teams.

entertaining football, cup run, and top 4 for me

I just don't want to suffer any more soul-destroying thrashings. Those horrible results skewed everyone's vision of last season, in which, if looked at dispassionately, we actually performed well. As pointed out above, we performed excellently against everyone but the top 4 (and Spammers, dammit). This season we could hardly do worse against the top 4...

I reckon ManC and Chelsea have bought their CL spots, they will not be dislodged any time soon. But there is no reason we have to be terrified of the rest of them - Pool are certainly a worse team without Suarez and with Gerrard heading to washed-up status at a rapidly accelerating rate. How they have managed to delude themselves into thinking they have returned to their "god-granted and rightful" place at the top is a testament to their legendary powers of self-delusion of their eternal greatness.

Obviously, ManU are likely to be better than last year, but they hardly look awesome. Arse look pretty good unfortunately. But anyhow, managers near the top don't get transitional seasons to play with. They don't even get half seasons. We have to be attempting a top 4 finish, or what is the point?
