Sorry guys, but Chiriches is right footed, no way we should play a right footed LB.

My formation if we want to go gung ho:

-------------------------Lloris---------------------
Walker-----Kaboul----------------Verts-----Rose-
------------Sandro/capoue--------------Holtby-----------
Townsend-------------Lamela-----------Eriksen/chadli
----------------------Adebayor-------------------
Or go solid

-------------------------Lloris---------------------
Walker-----Kaboul----------------Verts-----Rose-
------------Sandro/capoue--------------Paulinho/dembele-----------
Lamela-------------Holtby-----------Eriksen/chadli-----
----------------------Adebayor-------------------

My theory with the first team, is that our technical superiority and speed will really help us in retaining possession and progress vertically, in comparison to using our units in there.

I'm sorry, but what do u think we will achieve with Dembele as a left wing forward? Have a word with yourself, he can't pass, shoot or cross!

For some season I can remember him on the wing when bale was injured and in my head I seem to think he was good there I stand to be corrected tho! Think his dribbling would be dangerous there

Threw the chiriches thing out as an option he's versatile can play all across the back 4 and in midfield was an option with the hate rose gets and I personally don't rate rose either

He played their against Liverpool, if I remember correctly, and was poor.

Also, I firmly believe this is the best squad we have ever had in the PL era.
I think the season before last was stronger. When we had Bale, Modric, VDV, Ade scoring goals. That was a strong squad, and they finished 4th, but for a little luck we would have been third.

lloris
Walker Kaboul Vertonghen Rose
Sandro Paulinho
Lamela Eriksen Chadli
Soldado

2nd XI

Freidel
Naughton Chiriches Dawson Fryers
Capoue Dembele
Lennon Holtby Sigurdsson
Adebayor

Obviously Defoe and Townsend will get plenty of chances too.

Looking at that 2nd XI we are clearly a bit inexperienced at full back, which is a worry.

That said, we need to give chances to our younger players otherwise how do we expect them to make it.

I have to say though, our midfield and attacking options are looking much, much stronger than last season!

Brilliant isn't it? For the first time in years we have credible options across the whole starting eleven. Just wow. :D

OR: 4-2-3-1 replacing Chadli for Holtby

Kaboul covers right back, Vertonghen covers left back.

SUBS: Frediel Dawson/Chiriches Capoue Holtby Dembele/Sigurdsson Townsend/Lennon Defoe/Adebayor

Too many good players at the moment to really decide which team will be most effective.
We have such a strong 22 and rotation is key, as SAF has proven over his reign.

Not saying its my best eleven, but would like to see us try at some point:

817200_Tottenham_Hotspur.jpg

In a 4-2-2-2 almost. Lamela and Eriksen float around in free roles. Fullbacks bomb forward to provide the width whilst Sandro and Paulinho offer the cover. Adebayor drifts around to link up play whilst strike partner Soldado is the poacher in the box.

Lloris (one of the best in Europe)

Walker (sure he's a liability but who's better?)
Kaboul (will be a beast once he's back in form)
Vertonghen (needs to improve on his defending of set pieces and will need to be defensively focused to cover Rose)
Rose (more of a wingback than a left back...no one else really)

Sandro (he has to start once he gets full match fitness...slots back when Walker/Rose bomb forward)
Paulinho (box-to-box role, tries to steal position as far upfield as possible, very important secondary scorer once he gains form)
Holtby (Deep lying playmaker Either feeds the wings/striker on their runs)

Eriksen (CAM/left winger...runs the left-mid channel, works to feed Rose on the overlap, Lamela on the right, or Soldado in the left channel)

Lamela (inverted winger on the right, comes inside as Walker attacks the flank)
Soldado (we need to work on giving him better chances)

817202_Tottenham_Hotspur.jpg

Rotation/Subs:

Adebayor (used as more of a target man than he has in the past with less coming back deep to hold up play, works to finish off chances created by Eriksen/Lamela/Holtby)
Lennon/Defoe (super subs...bring on their pace against tired legs)
Townsend (R/L)/Lennon(L)/Chadli (R)(bring in these guys when we want more width up front. Can replace Holtby/Eriksen depend on what shape we want)
Dembele (used as cover for any of the midfield positions)
Chiriches/Dawson/Naughton (defensive cover)
Friedel (Keeper cover...I think we might start using loans for keeper cover in the future)

Brazils weapon of choice throughout the late 90s early 00s. Sandro and Paulinho should definitely be familiar with that system, I think quite a few club sides still use it in Brazil. Would be interesting to see. Not sure if it would work in the fast paced epl but it's definitely an option for us I think. Maybe it's what avb had in mind when he brought Defoe on for Dembele.

I'd like to see a bit of fluidity between Lamela, Eriksen and Holtby like the way Chelsea have used Mata, Hazard and Oscar. Having Sandro as the anchor and Paulinho as the engine is exactly what we need behind the creative players. This is the best way to ensure that Soldado is fed chances. Defensively Holtby can slot into the midfield 3 as he's a hard worker with bags of energy.

Walker and Rose love to bomb forward so when they do Lamela and Eriksen respectively will cut in onto their stronger feet to allow them to overlap onto the byline where they can drill in crosses or cut back passes. Sandro, as you said, will cover and Paulinho will either help cover if needed or make late runs into the box as he was known to do for Corinthians.

It's a great set-up. Boy, do I love being an armchair manager.

Exactly. It can change from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-2-2-2 to a 4-3-3 to a 3-2-4-1 very easily and that rotation/flexibility is what will cause teams problems.

Right now, all of our attack is on the wings, which just does not create very quality chances. I'm afraid with our current infatuation with the 4-3-3, we are depending way too much on wings and crosses in the box. Being able to unlock teams in the center of the pitch with very high-quality chances will be what makes or breaks us this season.

One of our key problems against Arsenal was that we had very little creativity going forward and whenever we got the ball into a dangerous position, we'd hold it for way too long and let the defense position themselves. I'm hoping a Holtby, Lamela, Eriksen combo creates fluidity and creativity at a pace that causes the opposing defense problems.

Dembele is excellent at one thing...taking position and dribbling it to a more attacking position. What makes him so valuable in doing this is that he can do this in the center of the pitch. His problem is that his next ball/what we do with the ball after he does it usually does not create a scoring chance.

I think with our new lineup, we will have a team oriented on quick/forward passing. Paulinho, to me, provides the same qualities but is quicker and has a better ability to score. I think having both Paulinho and Dembele on the pitch together is redundant.
