Nope. Won't support profiteering. price it realistically and I might consider it but £15 is taking the piss.

31 January 2006 and, for the first time ever, I decide to watch Spurs on pay-per-view. Away to Fulham? Nice. Should be a good game and, more importantly, three points.

Fulham 1 Tottenham 0

89 minutes of deeply uninspiring play by us, followed by the absolute gut punch of a last-minute winner for them.

As I stormed around the house shouting 'Carlos Bocanegra? Carlos fucking Bocanegra? You bunch of fucking spineless *****', I swore to myself that I would never, ever watch a pay-per-view game involving Tottenham ever again.

Admittedly, my resolve in this has been somewhat helped by the lack of pay-per-view games since 2007, but, when the chance came again this season, that feeling of utter, utter despair resurfaced and, so, no, I didn't pay the £15 to endure watching us struggle to dispatch the mighty Brighton and Hove Albion. I paid nothing to endure the misery of listening to us instead. Utter torture, but at least I didn't pay to suffer it.

I paid, wasn’t happy about it but would’ve been paying £50-60 to go to the game live + transport + beer + food close to £100 so £15 for the odd game I wouldn’t get via SKY or BT seems ok during this season. Once things go back to normal I hope PPV doesn’t continue, if it did then I’d boycott it.

Exactly this. I think people are confusing this with not getting what they already pay sky and bt for. these are the games that would in normal circumstances not be available legally at all. the club charges you £50-60 for the only way to legally watch these normally so why shouldn't they charge you £15 to watch it now. I paid and I don't even think its unreasonable when you consider boxing is often more than this and could last 1 round.

No I didnt pay...I pay £108 a month for sky & BT sport so not going to give them another £15. I recorded the match for free at 3am and watched from 6am. I just had to hid my phone last night....

They clearly are as these games wouldn't be available. The people who have paid for their season ticket are the one's moaning which to be honest is not Sky's or Bt's fault. It's the club's fault as I cancelled my membership back in the summer as there was never a realistic chance of fans being let back in before Christmas, if you follow the proper science.

The club should have subsidised the matches for season ticket holders but members and the general public would have had to pay to watch the game in any case.

Due to travelling from the Midlands, I pay £20 parking near the Irish Centre, so £15 to watch a game without travelling 100 miles is a good deal for me personally and would continue to pay it if it carried on becoming available after the fans went back.

Did the same, but I think moving the highlights to 3am and doing away with the 'match choice' is Sky trying to push people into paying up. Greedy bastards.

Well, surely you've answered your own question with that last sentence?

The fact that boxing PPV is so high-priced should give you an indication of what's likely to happen with football if we succumb and start paying for PPV football matches?

All weekend I was saying I wouldn't, then I did. I felt bad about it afterwards though. You would think for £15 they would get some decent pundits in. I will probably try to find a stream for the next one.

I felt that dirty at one stage when I was actually wishing for Ekoku to be replaced by Tony Gale?

Spot on.

I get that people are worried that this is the way that it will go but you're spot on that these are games that wouldn't usually be broadcast via Sky, BT etc during the broadcasting agreement so the only way to watch would be going to the game in person or via an illegal stream, so not much has changed apart from they're now offering more matches at a cost which is £35-40 less that what you'd pay to go to the match and you can choose if you want to pay it. The broadcasters always get allocated a set amount of games they can air as part of a season so these are just extra's, if anything its a good thing as gives access to watching more games, if as a fan once matches are possible to attend in person again if you can't afford the match or can't make it then you could pay 1/8th of the total day cost of going to the game and watch on tv if you choose to.

Why should it be free to air when these are matches which otherwise wouldn't be shown on TV as they're outside of the main broadcast agreement at the start of the season. Just because fans can't currently go to the games doesn't mean that all matches should forever be available for free. Match-going fans will get a refund for their season tickets and can pay 1/8th of a full day out going to a game to watch the match on TV if they choose.
