United’s big mistake was signing CR. It has disrupted their rhythm, especially negatively affecting Bruno Fernandez’s influence.

I feel really sorry for Nuno.

Given the biggest job of his life and flopped at it, then his successor comes in and immediately improves the team, and in the old job where he'd made his name another guy has come in and is doing even better than he was in the good old days.

Luke Shaw throws the manager under the bus in that interview
What did he say?

Let's be honest. United's decision makers had zero plan in terms of who to recruit.

I don't think Rangnick was on their radar at all but things got so bad under Solskjaer that they needed to find someone to help until the summer.

I know it's just a temporary appointment before he moves to a consultancy role but it still didn't make much sense to me.

United need a genuine winner, someone who is good at finding a system to get the best out of players who don't fit into a highly technical one.

This is their problem. They've been signing players who are good at certain skills or are good at stat padding but not players who have the technical ability to play in highly functional systems that rely on quick interchanges and playing through the midfield.

Rashford and Greenwood both play on the shoulder and like to shift and shoot, neither are highly technical like Mahrez or Bernardo, for example.

Their full backs aren't up to it. Shaw is okay but lacks intensity, Wan Bissaka is useless in the final third and has poor football IQ.

Fernandes isn't a possession player, he isn't going to control a game, he can pull out a great goal or set piece but he won't get the game and take control of the centre.

All of their CMs lack the dynamism to play a system that relies on moving in tight spaces quickly. McTominay and Matic are cumbersome. Pogba is dreadful off the all and Fred lacks the quality to be the go to passer.

They needed a coach who could set them up compact and get them to play quickly on the counter because they have the players for that.

They don't have the players for high press, possession based attacks.

They are barmy for not going for Conte. They'd have an outside chance of 2nd with him.

Good thing is ronaldo signed a two year deal, they’ll end up losing martial in that time and with Cavani on the books and by all accounts the club wanting to offer him a new contract it doesn’t give the likes of greenwood, sancho and rashford the time to play together.
They’ve really messed up what could be a great attacking unit

What did he say?

He said along the lines (im paraphrasing a bit) ' maybe the manager has some ideas ' and ' We didnt have many options on the ball ' and ' we were not all together ' and 'look at the players we have, we have unbelievable quality but sometimes quality is not enough ' and ' need to bring intensity and more motivation'

Since THAT game:

Spurs (8 games): 5-3-0 18 points, 14 goals for, 4 against (+10)

United (9 games): 4-2-3 14 points, 11 goals for, 12 against (-1)
Said at the time straight after the match that we’d lost the battle but may win the (Conte) war.
