Dunno. It's always like this.

This is going to be a season of runs. I was briefly worried we might not be top5/6 there but I'm reasonably confident we will. Top 4 is a much tougher ask and always was going to be in my mind. The way the season has gone so far, we could actually do it but I was expecting the top teams to be much much more stable after last season's shenanigans. Didn't think it would ****ybooby two yrs on the trot.
Wtf?

Looking like that going by most Jan windows over the last decade. Never know though. Very very occasionally we do something out of the blue. But yeah, best not to get hopes up.

Well, we have rather a lot of money left over from the summer, but recent history—and not just ours—suggests that in January you may have to pay well over the odds to get the players you want, and that those players may turn out to be duffers.

Juande's first January window we backed him with Woodgate, Hutton, Gunter and Gilberto (alright, no sniggering about that last one). Harry's first January window we backed him with Defoe, Keane and Palacios, as well as Cudicini and Chimbonda. Jol's first January window we only bought Dawson and Reid, but then we'd bought virtually a whole new squad in the summer. Bottom line being, our last two managers have been backed in the January transfer window with fairly big signings. The only difference being that those two were brought in after the summer window with us in crap league positions. If we're around 4th - 6th in a few weeks time Daniel may see things differently.

I think Dadbasha (that well-known character from 'Aladdin') is very sniggerworthy too. What did I say about paying over the odds in January? Harry's first January window we paid really silly money, but we were deep in the doo-doo and didn't have too much option—and who knows how much imaginary money was involved in the Keane and Defoe deals?

Especially silly given that most of the players we signed in Harry's first window were players we'd sold not too long before. But then Everton bought Jelavic in January, so not every deal is a £35m for Andy Carroll.

Indeed. Certainly not going to be getting any Moutinhos or Eriksens anyway. Some seem to think they are possibilities though. Bless their optimistic hearts.

They were, but, given the situation, you can't seriously fault Harry's logic—and I'd hazard a guess that only Levy and his inner sanctum know what they really cost—my suspicion is that the actual money was substantially less than the paper figures we see. And, absolutely agreed, there are bargains like Jelavic to be had, but you can also picture SC members going, 'Who the fuck is Jelavic? He doesn't show ambition! Give us Falcao! Now!' And, as a caveat, the Barcodes signed Cissé in January and he was the absolute nuts in the latter half of last season; this season he can hardly buy a goal.

Some really dreadful reffing this weekend. The sham at the Emirates and the guy at the West Ham match was very poor.

Anyone watching the Fulham v Newcastle game? I'm primarily watching to see if Berbatov can get me some fantasy football points but both teams could do with a win.

It's rather funny that since Pardew was handed that eight-year contract back in September things have gone a bit tits-up, and looking at some of the comments flying around on the web, the Barcodes faithful are starting to get a little antsy. Sure, they've had even bigger injury problems than we have, but tonight they were only Cabaye and Taylor short of full strength. I bet Chrissy Hughton's having a little chuckle.

Anyway, kudos to Martin, he's doing a decent job on limited resources. And he's Christian enough to forgive Berbatov, too!
