Had a look on twitter. First time actually 'using' it for something like this.

What a horrible cesspit that names can just be mentioned with people defamed with zero regard for the impact.
Ummm.. Yeah. Cesspit.

Hasn’t a club sued a football forum before for libel? Am I making that up?

A Blackpool FC forum was successfully sued by Blackpool FC's lawyer after a post described them as having been struck off when, in fact, they weren't.

The main guy of the forum had to pay £18k in damages, so, all things considered, if Rob says 'don't do it', then we don't do it. It really is that simple.

It would be ironic if it's the player I've been informed it is considering our transfer business this summer and the comments from a fair few on social media. I've heard from a police officer the name of the player as its their beat that the arrest was allegedly made. Time will tell if they are telling porkies

Idk if it's even possible to avoid, but giving away age data and info that he's going to play at the world cup etc just seems to be inviting fans to put 2 and 2 together and potentially make 5.

Best thing to do would be to not initially report it, or report it with zero additional details beyond "PL footballer".

That’s what Twitter is all about.
People hiding in the shadows just waiting to pounce with their poison…on anyone they judge to have done something morally wrong, regardless of whether there has been due process or a proper investigation.

These people get huge dopamine spikes by vilifying others they perceive ‘live below them‘ on the morality scale.
When in fact, what they’re really doing is using their ’outrage’ as a misdirection, to make sure people aren’t judging them and their own fragile lives.

Yeah, feels really irresponsible reporting

I have to imagine that if I was a 29 yo PL player in London that I'd be releasing a statement/tweet/IG post about it not being me.

It's deliberate. Twitter, social media in general, every fan forum and all the football-related WhatsApp groups are ablaze with talk of this, at least mine have been for the past few hours. More clicks and more attention for those publishing the story.

I figured it's deliberate - I'm saying if the name can't be given for legal reasons, in this case probably the age and his international status should also be avoided.

There's a couple typos in this but are you suggesting that you've been told the identity of the player by a police officer?!

I'd be very careful not to hint at anything further in terms of the identity of that player...

Sounds like the police released the age. But I agree that the additional information about international status with a World Cup side is basically to name the player without being held accountable.

Twitter really is full of pond life. Really don't care who it was or who he plays for, if he's guilty he needs to get the sentence that fits the crime, if he isn't then it really shows how backwards society has gone based on the list of accused by social media.

Well as you can imagine in that profession when someone high profile is arrested word gets around. However let's just see what name comes out. As lots of people like to pretend to be ITK so might just be acting like it's fact as opposed to jumping the gun on some rumour that is out there.

Arsemania hoping it's our players and discussing names ... so many things wrong with them if even with this all they can think is football.

One way or other this will come out - most likely in overnight papers
Not in the papers they won’t name him, I’m sure there’s some sort of a law, I don’t think the Everton player has been named but everyone knows who it is.
