Watched five minutes of Liverpool now, I made the comparison for us with Chelsea and Arsenal the other day, throw them and City in as well, but just look how quickly these teams move the ball compared to us, at one or two touch, lots of runners and people on the move, and done with clarity of thinking. Most of the passes/passages of play aren't even remarkable, but do it at enough tempo and you still cause opposition defences problems and don't let them set. There is also a base level of urgency in the play.

I think, even when we've had better seasons than some of these teams, that our pass and move and one/two touch play has been weaker in all truth than other teams (but our collective and overall play has meant it doesn't matter, we win in other ways), but right now whilst we struggle to find form the differences are showing up even more.

On what evidence do people think we will even sniff a EL win?

Yeah, we just bottled it against a shite PSV, but no worries we’ll win the EL. Who won it last year, Athletico who? We’ll shit ‘em.

That one season where we used to blitz teams was the best thing I can remember about supporting spurs, actually being able to enjoy games with 25 minutes to go. I would say it’s probably less energy consuming doing things that way than scraping a lead and then trying to hang on for 25 minutes.

The Modric, Parker, Bale Spurs side was the best to watch. Remember trouncing teams and they were all loving it, still looking for more. Smashing Liverpool 4-0 when it should have been closer to 10-0 was a real highlight.
The Poch team of the Leicester run in was a good side to watch too. Seems like donkeys ago now. We are fucking pelt compared to that side.

Fullbacks and midfield aren't good enough. Fix those and you fix a lot of the defensive and attacking issues. Club won't spend or promote youth though so it's going to last

Not seen the game but shit result. CL all but over. Just not good enough from Poch or the players this campaign. Bust a gut to get top 4 and then do this. Fuming.

Agreed but it’s not easily fixed. Walker is so much better than Trippier it’s scary when looking back at it.
Davies is terrible this season.

A prolonged run of Aurier and Rose ( when he comes back ) might help. The midfield? I think that’s a massive issue and one we’ll do remarkably well to get even close to solving. It’s hard to overhaul a midfield. Fingers crossed Winks kicks on.

Not sure how many teams we'd come across worse than PSV or Inter in the Europa League. The problem is fundamentally with us. With the way we play we have the potential to fuck up against any team.

Technically, our side is below all of these. We simply don’t have the players with the technical ability to play such football. Dembele, Dier and Wanyama will never ever move the ball quick enough. We’d be asking too much of Dele, Son and Moura too to be honest. All class players in their own right of course but count how often them three misplace a pass or miscontrol a pass. They’d all slow City and Liverpool down.

We don’t play like these teams of course but it’s be nice if we could just rediscover some of that verve from couple of seasons ago. Seems like we are regressing as a side.

Just finished watching the game on catch up. Haven’t been this pissed off watching Spurs in a while as I have been watching today and the game at Inter. So frustrating.

I’m sorry, but imo we won’t win anything with this team.

We have the talent to do so, but there is still something lacking. It’s been a feeling I’ve had for a while, but these matches just cement the thought. There is a lack of ruthlessness and killer instinct and too much casualness and lack of concentration at key times.

We are miles better than PSV and better than Inter too, but at 2-1 we just slow the tempo, think the job is done and then switch off.

You can pinpoint individual mistakes, tiredness or whatever, but it’s a collective thing and runs through the squad imo.

I'm not saying we will definitely win it, but that doesn't mean I agree with you by saying at this point in time that we are definitely not good enough to win it per se. If we qualify for the knockout phase by finishing 3rd in this season's CL group stages then we have a chance, and I'm not prepared to just write our chances off.

Anytime pressure is added to a game we seem to fail. We certainly fail when the pressure is ramped right up. The semi final losses being a great example.
