It's almost completely gone from this team, to think how we used to be compared to now. Light years. We were better than them.
Two fuckups
and an iffy offside decision
did for us.
Too much strolling about
when we were ahead
and should have pressed.
To me, it comes down to two things: 1) Poch's tactics have started to look eerily like AVB. 2) We do not have the right personnel in midfield to be a dynamic team. I think we have it in attack, and potentially at the back. But there's not a single midfielder in our squad that could break into Man City, Chelsea, Liverpool or even Arsenal's midfield at the moment. Playing at pace, requires fluid and fast transitions through the middle of the park. You will never, ever ever see that with Dier, Dembele, Wanyama, Sissoko and Winks. We might not be quite as good technically, but I still don't think they, on the whole across 90 minutes, do many more remarkable things than us. A lot of our players are just too fond of taking an extra five touches of the ball rather than one/two touch and part of it is not having it coached out of them. When we do have moments where we play like this, we look infinitely better, always have, even when we've been at our most rampant in recent seasons.
If you watch games, win lose or draw, we also have far too many players standing still - this is something that when I watch matches with my old man he is always going ballistic about, even more so this season, and when you start watching for it you see it does happen. Which is why, allied to the lack of quick passing, I think sometimes it becomes a struggle for us to construct play through the centre of the pitch. We need to rethink, and evolve, as a team (and that doesn't just mean sign new players).
I can't agree with this. We shifted the ball around very well tonight and typically we start to hit full throttle around Xmas, I thought we played well and if Kane's second header goes in or we get the disallowed goal first I think we'd have comfortably won that. Performance isn't our biggest problem at the moment anyway, it's sloppy elements to our game that are causing problems. To me, it comes down to two things: 1) Poch's tactics have started to look eerily like AVB. 2) We do not have the right personnel in midfield to be a dynamic team. Actually forgot all about this game, just got home and seen the result.
Amazing how much I don’t care these days, feels fucking weird.
We're Spurs fans, we clutch tightly to straws. You won't get them out of my cold, dead hands.You-d win a Gold medal
if straw clutching were an Olympic event.
