Who knows how things will pan out this season - but what a start it has been.

The likelihood is that Man City and Liverpool will show their squad strength once the CL is back up and running and the FA Cup is in full swing and press on. How we cope in comparison will determine our finish. 4th wouldn't be a bad finish given our transfer spending and stadium fiasco.

But what is really awesome is that we are actually talking about competing with Liverpool and Man City for the title, not about securing 4th spot. This mentality shift is brilliant. Love it. And I'm looking forward to the second half of the season and hopefully entering the new stadium.

That last paragraph, completely agree, for once I’m feeling it too, please don’t let me down Spurs and long may it continue

I don't know if I'm remembering correctly but I don't remember us even being in the title race at this time in that season, we became the title chasers because everyone else fell away, Arsenal were the leaders around this time and the race was primarily between them and Leicester and we only got to second after a great run in February.
Yes and no...

This time in that season we were 4th in the league but we were closer points wise to the leaders being only 4pts adrift rather than 6

I've got a funny feeling in my gut we're gonna win the league this season.
I can see Liverpool and City drawing, then the pressure getting to Liverpool and City dropping more points than us.
It just feels like we're unstoppable and when we get in the new stadium its gonna give us an extra boost.
Or it could just be the parsnips I had as I dont normally eat them.

It is ironic that when everyone talks about Man Shitty and Liverscum they dont directly refer to them as one man teams but the way they talk about them, they may as well. Man Shitty, lost Fernandinho - cannot win. Liverscum without VVD will face trouble.

Yet they always talk about us without Kane

****s
Liverpool are as dependent on Salah in the attack as we are on Kane if not more so.

not sure we are as dependent on Kane as conventional wisdom suggests. He was injured in two spells last year and missed 9 premier league games, almost a quarter of the season. Saw a stat a few days ago, that we won 8 out of 9 of those games.

He's huge for us obviously, but we have other players who get goals for us. Now if we lose Son and Kane at the same time, then we have problems !!

I think our experience of nearly doing it or should I say challenging Leicester and then Chelsea in those 2 seasons will stand us in good stead. We know what is required as a team. It's great that we close right now and come the end of February and we within a 3-5 point margin then it is definitely on.

I see a tug. Gentle but a tug nonetheless.
Got to love a gentle tug

The main thing that is causing the outrage over this is the post match suspension dished out by the FA on Niasse for Everton for disproportionate arching of the back and buckling of the knees not being in line with the level of contact made.

Personally I’ve been laughing at the ‘experts’ saying that it doesn’t take much contact when travelling at those speeds... (he’s barely above waking pace when he goes down :bag: )

Would love us to get a penalty against Liverpool with the same kind of half tug back in the last minute to win the game and take top spot off them! Imagine the outcry!

Still horrible that we didn’t get second!

Not so sure about that in hindsight. Yes it was horrible at the time but it didn't mean anything except bragging rights over the goons.

What mattered more was Poch's fury at the way we dropped off. It was sulky and petulant of us and he made damn sure our players knew that wasn't good enough.

The end of the next season was glorious as we saw out WHL with a string of crushing victories and a much better mentality that has stayed with us since and seen off such obstacles as moving to Wembley etc...

Van dijk kicked lamela square in the arse and they didn't think it was a penalty, it was a dive apparently. It doesn't matter what they do to one of our players, it'll never be a penalty to them.

This is what gets on my fkin tits with pundits. Blatantly biased pundits who talk shit. Whenever they talk about us its squad depth, flitting between we dont have any to 'wow look at that bench the depth in their squad.' And then the usual shit Souness etc come out with 'you just worry if Kane gets injured where the goals are gonna come from.' The dopey bastard even said it after the Everton game and the presenter said 'But they just scored 6 and Kane didnt get them all!!!'
On TS it was 'if they lose Kane and Eriksen they'll struggle.
Well der ya dumb fk thats 2 of our best players!!!
Take Salah and VVD out of the Liverpool team, would they be anywhere near as good?
Take Hazard and Kante out Chelsea, would they be anywhere near as good?
Even City with their riches arent as good with Silva and DeBruyne missing.
Such a twatty comment and no one ever picks them up on it.
Then theres the FACT that Kane has been out injured on numerous occasions and we coped just fine.
Its not like we've finished in top 4 for last few years and not had any injuries is it?
I need to lay down lol.

Agreed! In some ways we needed to pass through that experience to show players that there's no time for sulking. Poch would have learnt a lot about certain players too.

Liverpool's form and position is mightily impressive and they are in the driving seat. But the pressure hasn't cranked up yet and that's when titles are really won, when the pressure is high and you keep grinding out wins. We've chased before, okay we didnt succeed but the players know the situation, we held up our end of the bargain and they know that all they can do is keep winning and wait for any hiccups. Whereas Liverpool have been in this situation before and completely shit the bed. Let's see how they handle pressure this time because I think once they drop points they may have a little panic.

My brother the Liverpool fan asked what I thought.
It is a weird one because he did pull him back and doing that to stop a goal scoring opportunity should be a pen imo.
But if that was outside the box does he get a freekick? No probably not imo.
Then theres the theatrical dive which looked ridiculous and he deserved to be booked.
I actually think this is a rare opportunity where you could award the penalty for the foul and book the prick for simulation. He was fouled but he wasnt shot.

Liverpool were 5secs away from dropping 2 pts at home to Everton.
That win was all about Everton fkin up not Liverpool grinding out a result.
They're far from invincible.

Wait.

They just don't understand how we can have squad depth without having spent 200 million. The fact the we are being "brave" and doing it a different way does not compute.
