From the BBC:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/7353870.stm

After five or six months here I know the squad really well and what they are capable of," said Ramos.

And when asked whether the injury prone King would continue as captain next season, Ramos added: "We'll have to see what state he is in next season.
"We'll have to wait and see whether he is here next season."

I'll be absolutely furious if Leds is moved on.

There is no way King will ever be fit consistently. His injury isn't a normal one - it's not muscles or ligaments, it's cartiledge, which ultimately means you're fucked as cartiledge doesn't grow like the former two.

I really do feel we will benefit from having 2 CB playing with eachother week in, week out and I'm afraid that can't include King.

To be honest, I would not be suprised if he did leave, We all love King but if he can only play 1 game every couple of months then I can't see Ramos wanting to keep him, I can't see many managers wanting to keep a player who is constantly under the doctors knife.

Give him a coaching job and retire him. Or shoot him lol.

If, as feared, Ledders will never be able to play every week again, then Woody needs to be captain. Buy a first choice partner to replace King, then King can take a player/coach role and be back up.

But why sell him? He clearly loves the club, i doubt he'd ever want to leave as such and to be honest, when he plays, he is still absolutely unbelievable. I dont see why you would let him go as ten games equals 30 points and surely we'd have a better chance in winning those points with him in the squad?

I don't think anyone has said sell him?

I gather from Ramos' quotes that they are unsure he will play another game from next season, not that we're looking to sell him.

10 games may equal 30 points but continuity over the season is more important imo.

I agree with kendall, we have to look at the big picture we need a settled back four playing together week in week out or we'll get nowhere next season, Ramos knows this has to happen.

We all love Ledley, but if he can't physically muster a decent chunk of the season we have to do something, we've no choice.

Yep, it's like your bird moving away after living with you for years - you may try and make it work, and sure, sex once a month is better than none at all but ultimately the relationship will break down & you have to do what's best for your heart in the long run.

Yea, I like that.

For my money, the BBC reporter is overinterpreting Ramos' words.

Here's what Ramos said:

And when asked whether King, 27, would continue as captain next season, Ramos added: "We'll have to see what state he is in next season.
"We'll have to wait and see whether he is here next season."

Here's the reporter's opening paragraph (which is his interpretation of Ramos' words):

Spurs boss Juande Ramos claims he knows which players he wants to keep but has hinted that injury-prone Ledley King may not be at the club next season.

Now the BBC reporter is not wrong in his interpretation, but I believe Ramos is saying that until he gets full medical reports on King's knee, he won't know whether he will be fit enough to be part of our squad next season. If the reports are not good, then Ledley won't be playing. Full stop.

I do not believe Ramos is talking of selling Ledley here. No other club would pay him £50k a week if the Tottenham club doctors decide his knees won't stand up to the rigours of regular EPL football. And if it's a case of a new pay-as-you-play contract, I'm sure our terms would be equal to or better than any other offer.

I agree with Yanno, the quote from Ramos looks to me like it means that he might not be here next season in the sense he may be out injured for a good long while or even retired.

Nothing about selling him, would be complete madness to do that anyway.

However you look at it, it breaks the line peddled by the club and by King himself that there is no question of early retirement. A gaff then, and not the first. You can see why the club prefer Gus to deal with the media.

Look Ramos was asked some direct questions about his squad and transfer targets. Some of the questions then that came at him were King focused and like the rest of his answers he went down the "i don't know what will happen next season" line.
It's not his place to drop hints about anyone especailly the potentail end of a players career and he didn't.

This article http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/t/tottenham_hotspur/7329238.stm

and especially this quote from ledley with in it...

"My knee is actually feeling good at the moment and there is no inflammation," said the 27-year-old. "But we have to look at the bigger picture and accept that this is an ideal point in time to recover further and make sure that I come back fitter."

...holds a lot more weight with me than a managers commnets that a pionted journo make up his own subtext to.

Maybe.

But ever since the rumours of ledley's possible retirement surfaced, he's rubbished them, said his knee feels fine but then not been able to string more than 2 games together.

There is definite weight to it. How long was he out for before he returned this season? if he wasn't 'fixed' in that time, then there's no hope for him imo.
