However you look at it, it breaks the line peddled by the club and by King himself that there is no question of early retirement. A gaff then, and not the first. You can see why the club prefer Gus to deal with the media.

From the club PR perspective of "information control", then yes, it is potentially a gaffe.

But Ramos had a reputation for plain speaking in his relations with the Spanish media.

In this interview from when he was Sevilla coach, he's saying it how he sees it:
http://www.worldsoccer.com/interviews/sevilla_coach_juande_ramos_interview_107105.html

I suspect Ramos has a reason for all his - increasingly outspoken - recent comments. I think he joined Spurs because he was assured (by Levy et al) of the ambition of the club, and he is now trying to ensure that the club carry through the promises and match his ambition. Particularly in attempting to sign players of the highest calibre.

I think he will choose not to play Leds if he cant guarantee full fitness - even for the big game like he did this season eg. Goons/cup final.

I also think he will officically hand the captaincy to someone else.

Either way, sad, sad, sad day for the lad and the club

Is there another perspective to the whole scenario? Ramos is known to be a disciplinarian, and doesn't want his players to drink. King has been photographed to be drunk on a few occasions. Does Ramos think that is a bad example the club captain is setting for the young chaps like Lennon?

i just can't see why Ledley would be falsly optomstic. but i can see why Ramos would be mysterious about anything he's asked and play on the fact the journos will be running with another Ledley is going to retire headline. yawn.

Ramos has also said recently after our UEFA cup exit he wanted to push and fight till the end of the season but quite obviously he doesn't intend to do that at all...1 booking from the last 4 games of football is not a product of a coach telling his players to fight for everything. We're starting a month long warm down ready to be super fit and tuned for august.

Ramos letting the press interpete this in a mischeivous way has more of a motive attributed to it than Ledley or the club lying about his career.

Here's a senario.. We are tying to get a 3rd top class CB to add to Woody and King BUT this CB is worried that if Fit King gets in and if fit Woddy gets in. We tell the 3rd Cb we are likely to use him a lot becasue King may not cope or that King may not be playing through injury. CB agrees to join becasue there is more chance in his eye of immediate and consitent 1st team football. Thats a motivation for allowing a journalist to ask him a leading question and for him to reply "we don't know what will happen with King" etc etc...

Ramos also wasn't given the opportunity to make commnet on any other player.

Keane? "we will have to wait and see if he is here next season"

I think the options are that Ledley plays with us as much as he can or he retires. Can't see anyone willing to buy him. And I doubt he could pass medical if somebody wants to buy him...

There is no way King will ever be fit consistently. His injury isn't a normal one - it's not muscles or ligaments, it's cartiledge, which ultimately means you're fucked as cartiledge doesn't grow like the former two.

I really do feel we will benefit from having 2 CB playing with eachother week in, week out and I'm afraid that can't include King.

agree with this

I think though what we should do is use him as a backup to a first choice pairing, it will mean we have a quality world class backup and he wouldn't have to play too many games, but just knowing he is on the bench ready to fill in when an injury/suspension occurs gives me confidence

he has shown this year that even when not playing for a while, he can come in and do a great job, just what you need for a sub

This might be already answered elsewhere but, as you should all know by now, aside from a cursory check in the search thingy, i'm far too lazy to really check ;)

Does anyone know if Ledders has taken, or is taking any coaching badges? The only reason i wondered is that even with an injury, it's clear to all around him how superb his vision is and how well he re-organises the defence, if called on - maybe a future as a high profile coach lies in store for him, who knows?

Right now though, i prefer to see him leading the boys out

and why am i expecting our "world class" management setup to care about coaches anyway? They've treated all of our keepers like a bunch of ****s anyway, if i was Robbo, Cerny, Alnwick etc. i'd probably walk away this year and try and save a bit of any career i might have left after the f*cking comical way the top brass have dealt with them.

yet still, the thick people continue to tell themselves it tastes just like nutella, yum...

That would be my Summer over! I adore Ledley King, he is such a big part of Tottenham! I am shocked this has been said, there should be no question as to wether Ledley will be playing for us next season, in fact I'd expect there to be more of a question as to wether Ramos will be our manager than wether Ledley will be our player!

We just won't be the same Tottenham without Ledley in my opinion - and personally I'd be very dissapointed.

Maybe we should chain ourseleves to the turnstiles until he gives Ledley a new and improved contract :-D

something else to consider - i would imagine, as captain, Ledders has a clause that means his pay will match the top earner at the club (don't know for sure) but when we're looking at players now who will demand ridiculous sums of money and, the most foreign aspect for Spurs fans, the board apparently considering this outlay, then that would mean a player who, whilst outstanding, will be playing maybe only a third of the matches in a season as anyone else, but pulling the same kind of wage.

To be honest though, once again we show ourselves up as Spurs fans by, instead of just focussing on his recovery and what it'll be like when he is fully fit and playing regularly for both Spurs and country, half the folks in here are just skipping that, assuming he's going to be taken out back and shot, so are discussing our future without him...

f*ck you guys.

All I have to have add is, as I keep saying in thread after thread,

people who put as our back line

Hutton Woody King Bale

to me are preferring hope to reality which is (ATM)

Hutton Woody Dawson Chimbonda

hence why I keep saying two of our priorites are a CB and LB

evein if Bale gets fit again, I see him more as a LM - but the key point is don't rely on the long-term injured

I have a horrible feeling Spurs manager/board did so last season with regard to Leds - massive mistake if so

Ledley King is Tottenham Hotspur to me. If we were to let him go, I really don't know what I'd do. I'd rather not think about it.

I've actually watched the interview and it definately comes acros as though he doesn't know whether leds will be around next season because of his injury... what he said is in lear contradiction to the official site! Definately damage limitation!

I actually watched the Interview and i am Spanish, and to me this has been blown way out of proportion, he was was being non-comital when asked about all players who might be around next season (when he said about he knows who can do what now and can't learn anything new from this group)

and i think it was a joke when asked if Ledley would skipper next season he said he didn't know if he'd be here (but third hand jokes and long sentences by a translator don't always get the right response)

also this has heavily dilluted the Berba stories.

much ado about Nada ;)
