Antonio Felix who writes for El Mundo newspaper explains why...

In sound bites:

"No-one here is surprised by what happened to Ramos at Spurs, it was always coming,"

"very little shock either as the news of Ramos's exit filtered through to Spain."

Sevilla obviously knew something Spurs chairman Daniel Levy didn't - that much of their success was based around the extensive scouting network put in place by director of football Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo, who is known as 'Monchi'.

"At the time he went to Spurs, just after he said he had rejected a 'dizzying offer', people here thought Levy was crazy, 'loco',"

"To offer him such an amount of money and for so long too, it was the move of a desperate man.

"What you have to ask yourself is this: What is the success story, Juande Ramos or Sevilla Futbol Club?
"Ramos isn't a great coach and neither is Jimenez, that much is clear. But it's a well-run club and sometimes that may be even more important than the coach."

"He would not be welcome back, not a single fan would disagree with that,"

So to summarize.....

"Ramos isn't a great coach" - thanks we found that out :bang:

I'll be watching out for the Athletico Madrid results with a little more interest in the near future, assuming they get their man.

I very much doubt that Sevilla will win 5 tropheys within 18 months in the next 100 or so years. It will be a good achievment for them if they win 5 tropheys in the next 15 years.

Top of the league
Have they won a trophy since Ramos left? (although I'm sure they will).

Between 1948 and 2005 the club won zero trophies.

They appointed a sporting director Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo (Monchi) and Ramos was the first coach to bring that work to fruition.

I suppose that the Sky 4 success is all down to the manager and nothing to do with their huge resources? Ramos utilised the resources he had at Seville successfully.

Until after the 4-4 with Chelsea we had been playing well in the league last season(apart from 1-4 with B'ham). I don't know what happened after that.

Obviously he's failed in the league (disastrously) after that.

I think he will rise again and wish him well.

I will say this about Ramos. There is no way he had control of our transfers at all really. There's no way a spanish manager who has coached La Liga doesn't go hard for player he knows from La Liga.
