Spanish website Marca reported that Ramos, 53, has been released by his club Sevilla, who have been negotiating a compensation package with Spurs after Jol was sacked yesterday.
It's a deal: Ramos will join on four-year contract, report saysRamos, who has led Sevilla to successive Uefa Cup triumphs in the last two seasons, met club president Jose Maria Del Nido this morning before overseeing a squad training session.
Although Del Nido was determined to retain his coach and has a reputation as a tough negotiator, it appears that Ramos has accepted Spurs' ultimatum to join the club now or never.
Former Tottenham midfielder Gus Poyet has already been lined up to return as an assistant coach. This afternoon, Poyet's current employers, Leeds United, announced that he would not be attending their League One match against Millwall at Elland Road tomorrow "to allow the players to fully focus on the game without any distractions".
Following the departures of Jol and his assistant Chris Hughton last night, Tottenham also confirmed that they had parted company with goalkeeping coach Hans Segers.
The Dutchman joined the coaching staff in 1998, during which he made two first-team appearances, before making the substitutes bench in the 2001/02 season due to squad injuries.
"Hans has been a committed and enthusiastic member of the coaching staff and we should like to thank him for his contribution and hard work," said sporting director Damien Comolli.
Following the 2-1 Uefa Cup defeat to Spaniards Getafe at White Hart Lane last night, Tottenham's next match is against Blackburn, managed by Mark Hughes, who was among the favourites after Ramos to succeed Jol.
"I've seen my name a couple of times linked with it but I just view that as a reflection on the job myself and the staff are doing here, and the players are doing," said Hughes. "My interest is solely in Blackburn Rovers. I would suggest any appointment that's to be made is obviously in place."
Jol had already been linked with the Ajax job following the departure of Henk ten Cate to Chelsea. When speculation first arose regarding his future in August, Jol said: "I could walk out and go to a Champions League club."
