I'm pretty sure I could have picked and managed a team today that would have got a better result than Ramos. There was no real radical changes, albeit trying to accomodate three strikers. If we are going to be ruthless and disregard the so called deadwood then it will be goodbye

Mr Robinson - Moves like a oil tanker and creates an air of panic whenever the ball is played into our penalty box. A fucking great big liability.
Mr Dawson - Competant, but not outstanding. He appears to have stalled in his development or reached his full potential
Mr O'Hara - Does not have the pace, guile or technique to hold down a place in a top 4/5 team. He is getting games based on the fact, he's the only left footer available
Mr Chimbonda - lacks concentration and appears to rate himself highly
Mr Huddlestone - Great technique, but asbysmal when we don't have the ball. His obvious lack of mobilty will prevent him from being a fabulous player
Mr Tainio - AKA Mr Average.
Mr Malbranque - Works hard, but has to, as his lack of pace and one footness restricts his contribution. Squad player at best
Mr Lennon - Great pace, but lacks awareness and strength.

There are couple of others that I'm not quite sure are good enough to help us break into the top 4, but I'm prepared to give them another season to see if they push on - Keane, Zokora and Bent.

The obvious quality are King, Berbatov, Woodgate and Hutton. I hope I can add Bale to this list next year.

See that was a good post, until you got to the bolded part! Keane, certainly our best player not only this season, but in the last five years, he's been at the club. Sure, he's not an out and out goalscorer, but how anyone can knock the quality Robbie has, is beyond me. :duh:

Fuckin hell

I'm with Ever

If he had played our 'normal' team, people would have been complaining as to why we weren't using these 'nothing' games to try out new formations and stuff...

I bet half the people in this thread were those calling on Ramos to try out Tarabt (sic), and now he has, he's blamed for not playing our normal team...

Get a fuckin grip people!

Ramos (from official site):
Asked why he went for a 4-3-3 system, Juande replied: "We’re in a phase of the season that’s not so important so it’s useful to see the players in a different way of playing and we’re looking to use the squad. That will then help us make the correct decisions for next season."

Yup. I expect half a dozen in and half a dozen out (excluding the senior players who are out on loan and are already as good as gone) minimum in the summer.

We are safe in his hands. Like a new born baby in the arms of his/her mother. Like Anthony Warrell Thompson with a peice of the freshest, tenderest fillet steak and a piping hot pan with just a little oil. Like a builder with a brick, and an IT Technician and a Abit Fatal1ty FP-IN9 SLI Motherboard.

You do realise Worrall Thompson regularaly burns things on tv?

I'm finding it hard to see why Ramos is playing HUDD on the right hand side and worried because he plays Zoko every game.

He loves taking risks and trying new things and until next season I've got no problem with him trying different things.

He's obviuosly quality and we'll have to wait for what's in store from him next season.

The problem with this constant tinkering is that it's making some of the players look worse than they actually are, and if we're to sell them in the summer, it might mean we get less than we should for them. To rebuild this squad to what Ramos wants is going to cost a lot.

I think he got the tactics all wrong today, too, but he might as well experiment. it doesnt excuse the piss-poor effort by the players, anyway.

Ramos found out a lot about some of his players today; and believe me that this defeat will be a blessing in disguise.

And almost every project ends up costing more than you anticipate .

Looks like the club is about to embark on a course which it is by no means certain it has the money to carry through .

Yes, but that was always going to be the downside with appointing Ramos. He was going to want to rip up the blueprint and start again, which would mean going backward to go forward.

Last season we finished fifth in the League and had impressive runs in all three cups. We should have kicked on from there. If Jol was not the man for the job, the Board should have found someone capable of realising the potential in the squad we had. How have we got ourselves into a position where we need to replace almost our entire first team? It is like the last four years never happened.

Good question .

If we do and Levy's pronouncements about the squad were sincere then it seems unlikely that he understood the full extent of what he was getting into .

If such a squad takes two seasons to qualify for CL is Ramos really going to be here in the third to manage them through it ?

He has proven himself tactically and his substitutions time and again since he's been here. He has a very sound record and has won us our 1st trophy in nearly a decade. We've more than matched Arsenal,Man.U and Chelsea when we've played them and aside from a few slip-ups i.e birmingham and now newcastle, poyet and ramos have been a breath of fresh air. We played 4-3-3 today and you could criticise that, however newcastle also played it and they were away from home! Anyway disapointing result but luckily for us it didn't really matter and it's all about next season and Ramos and Poyet are just experimenting.

I think the fact that the result stung so much today that has people questioning Ramos. Personally, today's reslt pissed me off no end, but there is no way in hell I'm going to slate Ramos, no matter how bad it was.

A couple of things we need to bear in mind:

1) We have nothing more to play for this season. It really is an ideal time for Ramos to experiment. Playing O'Hara at LB may have been a bit silly, but Ramos has a reputation for playing quick, skillful wingbacks who get forward and putting O'Hara in the LB slot may well have been so he (Ramos) could see how he plays the left wing. Playing a 4-3-3 again is to see if the players can adapt to a narrower style and still be effective. Forget the result, the experimentation is an absolute Godsend. It's like an extended preseason, with the added advantage of Ramos being able to size up some of his managerial opponents.

and 2) He's delivered our first trophy in 9 years, within 4 months of arriving at the club. With absolutely no disrespect to Martin Jol (who I still love), the way things were going in October, no-one would have expected us to lift a Cup this season.

Personally, I think the main criticism should be directed at the players. By all accounts they just weren't all that interested today. Also, it seems that whenever we come up against a team that really needs a result, we give it to them, while against the big teams we slog our guts out. That smacks of complacency and I hope that Ramos gives them a good kick up the jacksy for going to sleep today.

Whatever happens this season, I'm just going to grit my teeth and bear it out. On my wishlist however is to see us do a really horrific double over the Toon Army next season. That'll keep me warm tonight.

I agree to some extent--it seems odd to me that the players that have taken us to Europe in the past couple of years, not to mention put in strong performances in cup competitions, are all of the sudden not good enough.

I would say, though, that when things were going tits-up at the start of the season and some of us were suggesting criticism should be levelled at the players far more than Jol, we were getting shouted down.

Our summer signings, lets face it, were not great. Aside from Bale, who looked great until his injury, we made better signings in the January transfer window. Bent is only now starting to show why we paid the money for him. I think the problem is that there was plenty of money floating around due to the TV deal and the teams around us that we were ahead of last season strengthened more than we did. The positions that we were crying out to be filled (CD, LM, CM) hadn't been and combined with a shocking start to the season always left us struggling. It couldve been worse though, we have Europe for next season, a couple of teams between 5th-8th are going to be disappointed.
