I think Eriksen is being consistently underrated here. He had an unusual amount of misplaced passes and some poor free kicks today, but at times I feel like he is the only one that I can be confident will do something worthwhile with the ball. So much of the responsibility to make key passes and break the monotonous sequences of sideways passes falls on him. He took a lot more risk in his passing today, and his numbers reflect that. His pressing is also fantastic, but the rest of the team is rarely on the same wavelength as him when it comes to that. He seems to be able to run all day though.

Lloris.......easiest game since he joined

Fryers...Perfect opposition for debut, sat back more then walker and Rose so Dawson didn't get so isolated which was a relief to my nerves.

Naughton...see fryers..except for debut

Vlad...looked composed and distribution was much better

Paulinho...first half he looked like he was on the copa capana beach ...magical touches , i have always been a big fan and i do believe there is a massive player in there , we need to get it all out.

Dembele....played 2 roles today, holding and driving us forward...MOM..great goal too.

Azza...What he did he did well, needs to do it more...

Eriksen...set peices poor, alot of passes astray, worked tirelessly and loved his energy, will come good if used properly...must always start though.

Soldado...Worked so hard, so desperate to do well that he snatches at chances, he an Ade are forming something together though.

Ade...pleased me more than his performance at Soton where he scored..Ade worked as hard as i have seen him with and without the ball, looks like he is actually enjoying playing.

Subs...Lamela.. loving his attitude when he came on.like Soldado sometimes tries too hard, but you can see the quality he has and i hope we give him the chance to blossom.

Chadli..I'm not a big fan , seems to be always stuck in first gear.

Capoue..i am a big fan...slotted in and allowed Dembele to play with more freedom 2nd half..we had a better balance when he came on.

As Stoof , Spurs Bear and JH might say 'Fuck my old boots'

Collectively pre match we were bereft of hope . Half of us had to drag ourselves by the scruff of the neck to our streams , the other half to the ground . Depressed or what ?

Some say Stoke were utterly shit others say we pressed like buggery to make them shit . I stand in the middle myself . Last year 'bout this time we started pressing very well and the falling off of that quality this season was big part of AVB's demise imo.

Wonderful periods of football for us tho . I'd forgotten we could do that . Even maligned Naughton (7) did a couple of Brazilian touches . The whole back line were comfortable...because there was so little pressure .

I'm sure Siggy is a lovely chap , but I was delighted he was nowhere to be seen . We have seen so many truly baffling subs in last few years that his presence on the bench would have left the door open for another jawdroppingly stupid substitution . Great to have that possibility nixed . All subs seemed sensible...first time since ...fuck knows when.

Great to see Lennon (7) actually racing in a forward direction. Like many I was surprised at his inclusion after injury ,as he usually plays very meekly for the first 5 games . Felt like the team had a bee in their bonnets , man motivation I call it .

Ade has certainly made AVB look pretty dumb . I understand the final straw for AVB was pressure from Levy to play Ade(8.5)..... what a twonk . As many here say , Ade is the key . Vs W Brom he was poor , we'll never know who is gonna turn up so lets just pray before each match , its our best chance....

Lot of Brit types on here and commentators too luv to see Lamela(7) going against their prejudices and attempting to break an opponents leg . Myself , I reckon he'll get sent off some day soon , or booked for a blatant dive as vs W Brom . However I luvs him me . Play the fucker I say . And while you're at it , play Eriksen (7)...and keep playing these guys .

Overall a wonderful , desperately needed tonic , congrats to one and all . We have not the faintest idea how things will go vs Utd...ha ha a very Spurs prospect..

did you get banned at the other place as well....if they arent careful they'll ban themselves soon the mugs....much prefer SC

No mate was really reserved but just wasn't the same. They censor every single profanity to ****. You couldn't even write the word 'slag'. I knew it wasn't going to work out for me the first entry into the ratings thread that I did and it ended up looking like a fucking morse code.

And once and for all can everyone stop crediting @jonathanhotspur with 'fuck my old boots'. Thieving **** stole that from me.

And I stole it from @Stoof. He once wrote 'sod my ancient footwear' and it made me soil myself.

I just don't think we should all be sucking ourselves off just yet. It's three games, two of them against pretty shit teams at home.

Even if we went on to win the league from here and then the CL, i won't be sucking anyone off. But i did always have my suspicions about you BC ;)

Rewatched the match. Noticed a few things shich significantly effected my views. Fryers was fantastic today in attack and tracking back. Gret job. Layed on some great crosses. One of which Soldado would have knicked in if Sorenson wasnt in front of him. That same cross, Ade was conpletely lost. Should have been on the near post. Sorenson never should have gotten that. Layed PERFECTLY for Ade if would have fucking paid attention and followed the play.

On Soldado's back header toward goal, Ade picled up way too laye. If he paid attention, he probably could have put it in.

Ade had 3 great chances today. He missed a sitter then just didnt pay attention on the other 2. Did not play as well as I originally thoufht after rewatching it. Soldado was better.

Eriksen needs to stay out wide when played on the left!!! Only complaint with him today. Thankfully Fryers was fantastic in attack and provided width from the left.

In the first half he and Vlad let walters slip in behind a couple of times. Did well mind you with one of the recoveries.

I think that was more to do with Ade and Soldado taking up the left wing and making it 433

stolen from the other thread , the lopsided 433

I'm sure this point has been made dozens of times by now but I thought it was fantastic that we switched to more of a 4-3-3. This allows us to accommodate both Ade and Soldado in the side without sacrificing strength in midfield or defensive solidity. Windy took this image of the players' average positions from whoscored and posted it on twitter:

we could use the very same formation against man u and begin a little more solidly by playing dembele on the left with a dm in the middle. eriksen to come on as sub..

this formation falls flat on it's face without an adebayor type on form and roving around. if ade was not available i would ask dembele to do the same thing, nominal left wing forward

edit: this left wing forward is getting confusing, can we say: inside left forward..

Lloris had very little to do barring the odd catch, must make a nice change for him lately.

Naughton was better today than he has been. He may be a god awful left back but he seems okay as a right back, he's tidy in possession and works hard.

Dawson was better today, won a few good tackles and didn't seem to have any issues, but he was up against the one striker in the league with a larger turning circle than himself.

Chiriches, for his first experience against a side who will just pump the ball up to a big striker, did pretty well, his best game in a while. A couple of his usual very cool tackles and brought the ball out well.

Fryers had his best game so far for us, he did well going forward and defensively coped just fine. First time he looks like he might be the part.

Lennon started a little sloppy and put in a couple of poor crosses, but improved and, most pleasingly, constantly looked to beat his man. It didn't always come off but when it did, it led to a ball into the area. I don't mind Lennon losing the ball up on the right wing, I mind Lennon being a chicken shit and not taking people on considering his immense pace and skill. Thankfully, right now he seems in the mood. Lovely goal too, he doesn't score many but when he does score, they're always from the top drawer.

Paulinho had his best game for us until he came off injured. I'm not sure where this purposeful, skillful, talented player has been hiding all season, but today he played as he always should.

Dembele was man of the match. Great running and driving forward, seemingly impossible to tackle, spread play well to create space and scored a beauty. This is the Dembele I want to see every match, this version of Dembele reminds me of Rivaldo. Strong, quick, composed, able to do anything. And with that left foot and ability to make space for himself, he really should be doing that 10 times a season.

Eriksen was moved to the left but still constantly came in and got the ball. Yes, a few passes were a little sloppy, but that's to be expected when he's trying to make something happen every time he has the ball. He constantly found himself in space to receive the ball when we were under pressure, and he used it brilliantly throughout the game to push us forward. Good performance and finally showing the talent and imagination he is reputed to have.

Soldado took his penalty well, but his shooting boots aren't on at the moment. He's snatching at things and taking extra touches, the sign of a man not on great confidence. Fair play to him for working his bollocks off, and his link up play and understanding with the other players is great, but as well as he's playing he does need to regain that scoring touch which saw us sign him.

Adebayor is a huge part of the reason why we are suddenly firing again. His hold up play, unpredictability on the ball, strength and pace are enabling the others in the team to get into the box, and to get the ball into the box more importantly. He also did brilliantly peeling off to the left, allowing Eriksen to play infield rather than as a winger and giving us a nice 442/433 mesh. Well played again, though I think he should've shown a bit more class when he laid into Lamela considering we were 3-0 up and Erik is a 21 year old kid trying to up his game and find some confidence and form.

Capoue played very well when he came on. If we were in control before he entered the fray, we were totally dominant during his time on the pitch. But for the form of the two who started today, I'd be tempted to throw him in against Utd (especially with Sandro unlikely to be full fit), however it would be harsh on any of the midfielders on show against Stoke. Of course if Paulinho is injured then that problem is solved.

Lamela looked positive. While he was on the pitch he got on the ball constantly, made chances and looked a real threat. He's getting better and the ease with which he moved the ball in whichever direction he wishes is quite special. Still needs to bide his time, but he looks a real talent.

Chadli had a good cameo, he chipped in well defensively and looked clever going forward, one lovely turn and dribble down the left really displaying his skill. A work in progress but, like Lamela and Eriksen, definitely improving.

Sherwood got it right today. Up against a side with no care for playing on the ground, there was no real need for a specialist defensive midfielder, but there was a need for players who could go to war and our midfield two did just that. Eriksen being moved to the left after two very good games in the middle was a big call but correct as it turned out, as the little Dane's influence did not diminish, and Lennon straight back in could have been a risk but his constant threat on that side fully justified the decision. This was a huge indictment of AVB's inability to get us playing with the exact same pool of talent available all season.

Got banned for a week before AVB got the Spanish Archer, won't comment as it'll no doubt result in another. Posted on another forum for a few days but once I'd worked out Dan Ashcroft was using another alias on there in his typical 'opinion as fact' mantra I logged back on here, watched it all kick off over Sherwood while happily laughing in the background, had very limited internet as I'm currently on the last leg of honeymoon in Phuket but taking advantage of the free wifi while the wife has a swim!

SC has still kept me entertained.

Has a honeymoon destination ever been better named.

I don't get to the matches so I enjoy reading some the excellent write ups on here. Cheers!

I think Adebayor is enjoying the benefit of his bog-standard microphone hairstyle as opposed to some of his more exotic barnets he's had over the years. That chip up & acrobatic sideways bicycle kick attempt for the penalty was excellent...who'd of thought that a few weeks/months ago???!!!. I think if he can continue like this we might just see the best form of his career so far.

From some of the highlights yesterday it seemed like we were playing 80s Tottenham football out there. Soldado just needs a scruffy beard and we need Eriksen to grow a mullet.
