Pretty fair assessment (above)

As the game went on Defoe got into it more, although he didn't do too much in the first half whereas Crouch was holding the ball up and laying it off well.

Second half, Crouch didn't look that dangerous and Defoe did well to create his goal.

Anyway, good win lads

Just at whl station after. Hudd def mom for me instrumental in most of our good stuff. Can't believe we didn't score more, glad we closed it out, I started to worry on about 70 mins. Good performance lots of 7's, 8 for Lennon and Hudd, 7.5 for King and Awesome Dawson for some immense headed clearances Wham were mostly crap could easily see them crash out of the Prem.

Gomes - 7 - Not much to do in the game but did well when he had to

Corluka - 7 - Solid all game, probably should've scored on that header hehe

Dawson - 8 - Looks a different player under Harry than under Ramos. Solid, great powering headed clearances

King - 8 - He's the King.

BAE - 7 - Did well both in defence and attack

Lennon - 7.5 - His usual busy self, fantastic run for the first goal.

Thudd - 8 - Very good game by Tom. Such a good pairing with Wilson. Whole team looks more confident with him in it, spraying passes around. Supported well in attack and unlucky not to have scored.

Palacios - 8 - Coming back to his old self. Good tackling and battling

Modric - 7 - Looks a bit rusty still which is to be expected. Some sloppy passes and loss of possession but scored the vital first goal and showed glimpses of his class.

Defoe - 7 - Struggled but never gave up and scored a beauty.

Crouch - 6 - Struggled today but not bad by any means.

Subs

Jenas - No time to impact proceedings

Bale - Same as Bale

Kranjcar - 6 - Should've passed it rather than gone for goal just after he came on. Very greedy decision IMHO.

Harry - Got it spot on today.

Just have to say that I didn't think West Ham were bad today. They pressed well and had some really good passing combinations but they never managed to threaten which is a compliment to our defence and Palacios.

Would've liked to have seen us bury them earlier.

hudd played his best game of the season. Rotating sometimes motivates players to excel.
We are going to miss Ekotto. Brillant performance.
The whole team except crouch played well. Crouch misses so many good chance.

Gomes 7- Nothing much to do, but kept his concentration when required

Corluka 7- The Corluka we like to see, turned up!

Dawson 7- Solid

King 8 - Good Captain and led the best with his usual no fussy but classy assurance

BAE 8- Top dislay both defensive and offensive. Read the game very well.

Lennon 7- Not his best but not his worst either. Good run and change of sped for the first goal

Huddlestone 9 - I have been very critical and anti Huddlestone, but on this display he may win me over yet. He can if he continues like this. Lets hope its not just a one off and he ups his game like this for the rest of the campaign. My MOM.

Palacios 7- Good display. The real Palacious turned up as well! I wonder where he was hiding. Linked well with Huddlestone. Top draw!

Modric 7- Scored a goal and wanted the goals. Ring rusty but good to see him back.

Defoe 8- quality finish. Made runs and pulled the defenders all over the park, therefore creating gaps in the defence.

Crouch 6- Not his best, but he was still effective at times

Add a MoM poll please :)

Not going to give any individual ratings, but in my opinion it was a team effort where most were playing at a decent level and doing what was needed.
Id say 7s and 7.5s for all. King untested but looked solid again, Palacios better than for a long time, Hudd important in middle, Ekotto had one of his better as well, and Lennon set up the goals and were threatning.

gomes 7 - nothing much to do. btw, anyone else notice how much he praises our players after the simplest of clearances or tackles? Got me thinking about his leadership qualities. Certainly a great character but not sure if we can have a captain that could easily have a spell of high-profile mistakes (dont think he will but isnt impossible)

corluka 7 - good interceptions and forward passes. not much defending to do

dawson 7 - solid. some good defensive headers that were crucial to keeping a clean sheet.

king 7 - makes it look so easy. looked like he's been playing in the back four all season.

BAE 7 - another solid game from him defensively. OK going forward. we'll miss his defensive awareness

lennon 7 - great start but faded. cut in a bit too much for my liking but still found teammates.

Thudd 8 - great passing as always, made some good forward runs and was also solid in the tackle

wilson 7 - good passing and was solid int he tackle

modric 7 - was OK. showed his class at times but also showed that he isnt fully back yet.

crouch 7 - was OK. good defensive headers from corners around the 70min mark when I was worried that the spammers were gonna equalise!

defoe 7 - quiet but then came up with the crucial goal. what a hit! got back well when we were under pressure.

subs:
bale N/A
jenas N/A
kranjcar N/A - should have passed to crouch when he had that chance. maybe thinking he needs to even the score with modric? (prob not)

I thought Crouchie was decent today kept possession better and more creative than usual. Good touch and control which I would normally criticise as not assets for big pete

447 minutes (plus injury time) since we let in a goal. You have got to be happy with that. The defence has been immense of late and carried it on today. Our midfield all looked superior to the 'ammers. I just loved the way they were all willing to take on and beat players. Some lovely touches but just lacking when it came to final balls and clear chances. We need to kill teams off earlier. However, 2-0 is still a great result. I'm edging toward Lennon for MOM simply because he was involved in both goals (as was Luka; he added much needed class). Roll on 2010!

Gomes 7 - alert for danger, looked very composed
BAE 7 - we're going to miss him, this has been his best spell at the club
Corluka 7 - linked well (again) with Lennon, they have a great understanding
Dawson 7.5 - throwing himself around again, love him
King 7.5 - could hardly tell he'd been away
Palacios 7.5 - much improved performance mixing it throughout
Modric 7 - lovely to see him back, classy, a tad rusty but always a danger on the ball
Huddlestone 7.5 - worked tirelessly, lovely passes
Lennon 7.5 - usual threat, taken down a lot otherwise he'd have sparkled more
Defoe 7 - always making runs, great finish for the goal
Crouch 6.5 - worked hard if fruitlessly

Agrees with that but he has been wasteful for us this season, and today it could have resulted in us dropping points, like we did at everton.

The problem with Crouch is his control is often good on the chest or thigh, but as he is so slow of movement a more fleet footed defender can easily nick the ball away from him, and this happens a lot. The initial control is good but by the time his brain has told his legs where the ball is... it's not there anymore

Thought Charlie was fantastic and THUDD seems to have been learning from Palacios in terms of how to use his body to win and shield the ball.

Thought Dawson was excellent again today and made Ledley look ordinary at times.

As we all know Ledley is anything but ordinary so it's quite sad to see him losing headers and looking a little shakey at times against probably the most powder puff West Ham front line you could ever wish to play against

Daws MOTM for me

Since Upson's return, West Ham are a lot more solid at the back. Definitely a lot better team than many who have come to the Lane this season. If they continue to show the same spirit they showed today, they should be safe from relegation (unfortunately).

A good Spurs performance.

Gomes 7 - Very quiet afternoon

Corluka 7.5 - Good performance at the back and got forward well

King 7 - Untroubled

Dawson 7 - Continues in good form

BAE 8 - Excellent game

Lennon 7.5 - Always a threat

Palacios 8.5 MoM - Great tackling, good passing and thrilling run down the right that almost led to a goal.

Huddlestone 8 - Excellent match although probably should have scored in the first half. Tackled well.

Modric 7 - A bit rusty and seemed well off the pace in the first 20 minutes apart from the goal. Got better as the game went on. Probably a little generous in my rating but, hell, HE'S BACK.

Crouch 6.5 - Worked really hard without much success. Well marshalled by (the excellent) Upson. Probably should have scored from close in, in the first half.

Defoe 7 - Worked hard but often outnumbered and outmuscled. Had a hand in the first and scored the second out of nothing. Does anyone seriously believe that Keane would have scored in a similar situation?

Apart from the inevitable edgyness of being 1-0 up for so long, this was a very good performance.

The first thing I have to say is the Redknapp has now got us pressing the ball much better, and much more consistently. This was something I alluded to in several ratings threads - ie Redknapp's failure to impart his post (Barca) match comments on the team this season - and it is really the secret to our recent run of results. It is this pressing of the opposition all over the pitch that is the reason we are keeping clean sheets.

The pressing starts with the warrior that is Peter Crouch; this fella saw the ball 42 times, giving a fantastic (for a striker) return of 27 accurate passes. Bare in mind that many of the non successful passes are due to him offering and receiving the ball under very heavy pressure, with often one or two geezers right up his arse. This bloke never fucking shits, never flinches, never panics and always tries to find a team mate with the lay off.

The real hero today though was Palacios. The bloke was fucking outstanding in the first half. Outnumbered in midfield, he was everywhere making tackles, winning the ball, and his passing was superb, several times playing great balls that set up attacks.

The only disappointing thing today was the lack of intelligence and composure shown in their box. Lennon was put into some beautiful positions today and failed to find a team mate on every single occasion (even the goal fortuitously found Modric).
His end product aside however, he did well, was lively and worked hard.

It was great to see Modric back.

Ratings:

Gomes 7* - Nothing much to do but did it with aplomb. * Upgraded mark using the new SP/BC (quasi duckworth lewis) method.

Corluka 7.5 - Good game. Got forward and supported Lennon intelligently.

Dawson 7 - Not exactly worked off his feet today, but I thought what he had to do he did really well today.

King 6.9 - Perfectly competent performance for a guy that's been out a while.

Ekotto 7.4 - A very good performance.

Lennon 7 - His end product really disappointed me today in a big way. He was put into some unbelievably great positions and failed to pick out a team mate. He did however work hard, show up, and overall was a decent performance.

Huddlestone 7 - This really is a conundrum for me. I watch him play. I look at his stats.
I am trying to see something that my eyes and intuition are missing. I know he can pass the ball well enough, but does he ever make a pass that has your sperms packing their suitcases ? doesn't me. He plays obvious passes well enough mostly but is still failing to ignite anything in my scrotal vicinity. His pass completion rate was better today than of late (87% - same as Palacios today) but we were playing against a very insipid side, and whenever he gets around the box he lacks the vision to create with a slide rule pass, and his shooting is invariably poor. He gets a fair mark today as his performance was good enough against a shit side, and on a day like today you don't notice his deficiencies so much, but I remain nonplussed.

Palacios 9 - My MOTM by a country mile. This bloke was brilliant in the first half. Contented himself with being merely excellent in the second. People don't always appreciate the job a player like him does, It's not just his tackling, but the amount of ground he covers, the amount of times he gets his face in their face. He provides the platform for us to play football. He also plays a bit of that football too.

Modric 7 - Constantly involved. Giving and going. Great to see him back.

Crouch 8 - I'm fucking loving this guy. He's the perfect foil for Defoe. He takes a beating every game. Putting himself into every ariel challenge knowing he's getting a clump. He shows good composure and technique in tight spots. He still manages to contribute more accurate passes than Keane does by some margin.

Defoe 7 - Truth be told he was a little disappointing today for me, goal aside. Generous with a 7 But he did try, and did score that vital second goal that enable my sphincter to finally relax.

dawson-8 actually good game from him as most of you know dont rate him too much and he does still worry me, only thing is i hate it when it keeps hoffing it when he gets it should look for the simple balls, still worrys the fuck outta me.

Palacios/Ekotto were outstanding. Really going to miss Benny during the ACN.

Lennon/Hudd/Crouch/Defoe/King/Daws/Charlie were good.

Modders - I salute you.

Gomes continues to do everything expected of him.

Easy peasy. can we play you every week?

Gomes - 7 - Not a whole lot to do. Improved so much at controling his area now though!

Corluka - 7 - never really troubled, even against a packed Wham midfield.
King - 7.5 - he is our rock. Good game, shame he didn't get that header on target.
Dawson - 7 - he can play alongside any of the three other CB's just as well now. Our future captain.
BAE - 6.5 - I think he's ready for the ACN now, and I feel he isn't over-commiting himself because of it.

Modric - 7 - great passing and movement for his goal. Played really well for 55. Feel he should have been subbed then.
Palacios - 7 - back to his usual self. Controlled the midfield, nothing more to say.
Huddlestone - 8 - his movement was probably the best I have seen, and against a busy midfield.
Lennon - 7 - wasn't amazing, but he didn't really have to be. So quick and intelligent!

Defoe - 7.5 - put in a really good afternoons work, rewarded with the goal. Unfortunate with the free-kick. Thought Hudd was taking it...
Crouch - 6.5 - couldn't really get in to the game, I felt the tempo from our midfield and Defoe was too quick for him. Unlucky with the shot that hit Tomkins.

All subs didn't have much time.
