Any chance you could add a MoM poll to the thread header?
I thought everyone did as well as they could have done (barring Gomes' mishap), but in the end Real Madrid were better than us.
In the autopsy of the two legs I think the basic conclusion should be that we were beaten by a better team with better players than we have. Playing for 80 mins with 10 men in Madrid didn't help either.
All of which I hope puts the following in the proper perspective...
I think Harry Redknapp's reached his level. The thing I omitted from the list above was "Better manager".
We had a mountain to climb and it was completely unlikely that we'd do it and almost unreasonable to hope that we might, however to put out the completely expected as Harry did last night was to utterly live up to a manager like Mourinho's expectations.
He knew exactly how to play against that team, there were no surprises and he had his team prepared so much so that they dominated from start to finish.
I remember Jol switching us about a few years ago against Chelsea and completely throwing them. He stuck Lennon in the hole and we were 3-0 up before Mourinho had a chance to change it about at half-time.
From Redknapp yesterday we got absolutely eff all. Stick the wingers on the wings, put Modric and Huddlestone in the centre... etc etc.
Redknapp's right, the game is essentially simple and players need simple instructions, but when you've got two top teams tactics make a difference. Mourinho isn't successful just because he's had the best players everywhere he's gone - if that was the case then you wouldn't even need a manager - he's successful because he can put out an Inter team which one week can nullify Barcelona and the next overwhelm Serie A minnows.
Like I say Redknapp's reached his level...
Most folk did ok - 6
Bale and Modders - 7
Hudd and Gomes - 4
Mourinho - cool as fuck.
Give it a rest. That isn't even relevant to this thread. People said he reached his level when he won a cup and got in the top half with Pompey. I am sure you predicted that he would move to a club like Spurs and get us into the top four and then get Madrid and get beaten comfortably, albeit in extreme circumstances. Did he reach his level by telling Crouch to get sent off.
Support the team and manager that got us to enjoy this CL campaign and stop this stupid witch hunt.
A little harsh, tell you what though, agree with you on Mourinho... and the guy has been more than respectful to Tottenham, think he genuinly likes the club... who knows, next manager (when HR goes to England)?!
R.
I do think Redknapp's ability is relevant and his performance this game is of interest, but obviously not the only issue. His substitutions were rather difficult to fathom, unless of course Lennon and Modric were injured or needed resting.
Don't fooled by Mourinho's so called respect. Machiavelli would be proud.
