Only just watching MOTD as ran the marathon earlier. Chuffed to hear that Emerson looked solid as some early judgements were incredibly harsh on him.

Glad Romero started. He’s our best CB, get him playing.

Son the difference between the teams and easily the standout player on the pitch, passion and skill.

Back four did well with Emerson having a good game defence and offence. Reggie got forward well with couple of nervous moments defending, good ball for Son. Romero looks very calm and reliable.

Skipp did his job well and PEH great finish. Ndombele one flash of brilliance had run out of steam 15 minutes before subbed. GLC did good job and helped control last quarter.

Moura put in good effort without really influencing much, nice run for the goal Shane if not credited to him.

Kane still looks little off the pace but had a bright last quarter where should have scored and GLC should have buried the Kane back heel.

Nuno lost that stubbornness he seems to have and changed the formation and replaced Dele, both good and much needed moves. Still thought he left Ndombele out there too long and Villa started passing through our press and midfield too easily.

Villa had looked good before this match but we’re largely handled well and made to look a bit average.

Son. Had a blinder today. Nice to see the cbs not hoof it long every time they had possession. Thought Ndombele was quiet. Sloppy. Great run on one occasion. Locelso looked decent. Shame we can’t fit them both in.

Happy with the win and overall performance. Like one of the posters said I didn't see the game and we won. Plenty positives and lots to build upon. Bad timing with the break but beat newcastle away and things won't be looking so bad after all. Main thing is Nuno changed his tactics. We were more positive and played better.

Son was on fire and I was so close to giving him MotM but due to some fine displays elsewhere, I went for team effort.
Getting on the scoresheet would've swayed it for me and he certainly deserved a goal at least.

Overall though, there wasn't a bad performance out there and after recent weeks, I think the team deserve to share the accolade.

Not one post with any match ratings. Sort it out ffs.
Just for you... ?
(probably over generous with the numbers
but fuck it, we won and I'm feeling good).

Lloris - 7 didn't really have that much do do save wise but marshalled the defence well in the face of continuous set pieces.

Reggie - 7 better but still needs to improve his defensive game for me. Got forward well and always looks to attack.

Dier - 7 decent performance today, best for a while. Looked strong and solid.

Romero - 8 love the aggression and the way he steps up to tackle, rather than backing off.

Royal - 8 fine performance in both attack and defence. Have we finally managed to get a decent rb?

Skipp - 8 solid with some great tackles and tenacity. Plays for the shirt.

Hojbjerg - 8 he's our captain in all but name and leads by example. I get the feeling that the corner flag shenanigans were probably his idea.

Lucas - 7 his passing needs to improve and he can do it, just needs to do it consistently. Tireless workrate and was popping up all over the place. Good clearance near the end.

Tanguy - 7 hardest he's worked for a while and some lovely touches, just wasn't quite clicking for him today. Lovely moment of skill to create space for a shot bring a save from their keeper. Getting better.

Son - 9 on fire! Running, movement, passing, taking people on, he had it all today. Deserved a goal but the best player on the pitch by a mile.

Kane - 7 better. Should've scored but probably his best performance of the season so far. His passing isn't up to his usual standards yet but he was more mobile today. If only he'd come back for pre-season on time, the dick! ?

Subs.

Lo Celso - 7 I'd start him in the middle over Ndombele. Clever, tough player and battles hard but with skill to match. Do not shove him out wide, keep him central.

Bryan - 7 didn't have long but always looks to make things happen. He's a tough little bugger too, not afraid to get involved.

Nuno - net. Yep, still not enough time to judge him yet but today showed some good signs.

Lloris 7. Not much to do but no mistakes.
Emerson. 7.5 Looked good and did well. Different class to Doherty. No brain farts like Aurier. Very promising.
Romero. 8. Mustard. Looked class. Got ouselves a replacement for Alderweireld. Now need replacement for Vertonghen.
Dier. 6.5 Doesnt fill me with confidence. No major brain farts today but he needs upgrading ifwe wanna be regular top 4.
Reggie 7. Had his best game in a while. Did ok but jury still out for me.
Skipp 7.5 Usual steely self. Did well. We are so much better with him in the side.
Holjberg 8 Back to himself after the NLD no show. Very VDV like finish for his goal. Good to see him shooting as he does find himself in some great positions and trys to shun responsibility by passing. Think he may have been working on that lol.
Moura 8. His work rate cannot be understated. Wears his heart on his sleeve and is Spurs to the core. Wish every player put in the same effort he does.
Ndombele 6. Not a fan. Had boots on wrong feet today. Still produced a couple of decent bits but its not enough. Rather see Lo Celso start. We're better without him and thats the truth of it.
Son 8.5 Motm for me. Also Spurs to the core. Love the bloke. Along with Moura one of the few in the team that actually runs with the ball.
Kane 7. Had chances and worked hard. Not worried about him at all. The floodgates will open soon ( they will if we stop having international breaks every fuckin 2 weeks) and the summer will be forgotten.

SUBS
Lo Celso 7. Should start imo. We look better with him. Makes things happen. Did well.

Gil 7. Not on for long but like the look of him. Promising.

Nuno. 7. Far too early to judge. Ridiculous going from Motm to should be sacked 3 games later lol. Get a grip people. Shitting your pants after 3 games when the whole team have been in decline for 3 years is a nonsense. Theres a lot of work to do. A LOT. And no coach is gonna put it right in 6 bloody games. Give your head a wobble.

Good all round for this match. We started a bit shaky but after about ten minutes we were by far the better side and actually bossed the midfield against a good sides, created changes and could’ve won by more. Still not quite right by the most balanced we’ve looked. Linked the variation in our play.

Lloris didn’t have a huge amount to do, was not at fault for the equaliser and made a good save from an Ings shot that he’d have seen late.

Emerson was good, loved his aggression in the table and even though he’s not rapid, gave us an outlet down his side a few times too. Would’ve loved his reading shot to go in.

Romero over committed in the build up for their goal and so really it was down to him, but 9/10 times he does that he’ll prevent a goal in its formative stages so I can live with it. Experience and adjustment to the league will help him judge better too. I loved jus aggression, his calmness on the ball and his ability in the air.

Dier was fine, made the most interceptions after Emerson, tidy with his passing and kept focus. Some are blaming him on the goal, not for me. He was trying to recover Romero’s gap against a much quicker player in Watkins, and had he committed but Watkins held his run for a cut back Dier would still get hammered because it’s trendy.

Reguilón had his best game in ages, defensively and in attack. Linked well with Son and Ndombele, gave us great worth going forward and seemed more robust than usual too.

Skipp brought balance to our midfield. He really does sniff out danger and his pace to get to duels, bar watching the ball bounce in the lead up to his booking, really stopped Villa from settling. Also allowed his partner to push forward more, and passing through the midfield had far more forward thrust than usual.

Højbjerg was great. Almost motm. Hunting the ball high up, good passing and link up, and a beautiful finish. Definitely preferred playing in a 2 it seems.

Lucas didn’t always find his pass and was a bit erratic, but his ability to get to any ball in space first before driving forward with it was key to us breaking Villa’s press all day. Felt for him not getting the goal.

Ndombele tried harder until he visibly gassed out early second half, far more dedicated to trying to win the ball back and worked to link up the team, particularly with Son. Touch was off though and so was his passing. Lovely jinking rum deserved a goal second half.

Son was man of the match. Great driving at their defence, involved in everything penetrative we did, deserved a goal himself when he was through and really played with his head up all day.

Kane has his best game of the season. Good link up, worked harder, sensational back heel to put Lo Celso through and worked for the team. On form he scores that 1v1 but this is the sort of performance that always bought him patience whenever he struggled for goals in the past.

Sonny (9) was the man . Got the ball and attacked . Watched him pass back 19 times out of 20 from attacking positions for 2nd half of last season drove me mad . I've a horrible feeling he might go back into his shell ,like he did after the incredible pitch long dribble a couple seasons back . Anyway superb performance, top of the Sonny range .

Came away thinking that at last we have a right back as Royal (8) gets his focus .Been a long journey replacing Walker but just maybe...

NDombele (6). weird that the man with the golden touch and little effort should suddenly be the man with the effort but poor touch . He was through on goal but simply pushed the ball too far in front and lost the moment . However ,if his one great play had resulted in a goal ,we'd all be telling a different story .

Romero(7) looked pretty good to me. I'm no authority on CBs crashing into each other etc tho. I remember when the ref was talking to him and his forward..and they went back to pushing....but Romero had a smile on his face...he's not stressed by all this chicanery ,he even enjoys it imo . Very good sign .

Kane (6) a little bit better imo...did some running and helped PES to score with it at one point. I'm expecting his groove to return

No doubt that Son was MOTM yesterday, but I'm glad the performances of Emerson and Romero didn't go unnoticed.

I thought Reguilon was much improved, too.

I really don't get how Romero is getting higher ratings than Dier. Dier didn't put a foot wrong all game. Romero was at fault for their goal. ?

Because he's new an shiny. Dier is a bit tarnished of late.
That's it for me anyway but yes, big Eric was very good yesterday.

Dier had a solid game, but Romero (bar the goal) was cutting out danger before it could cause us problems.

He was aggressive with and without the ball. Yes he made the mistake for their goal, but was excellent the rest of the time.

I get that, I just find it weird. Had we not scored and it ended up 0-1, Romero would presumably got flack for being at fault for their goal and be given lower ratings even if he did nothing different through the rest of the match.

I guess everyone has their ways of rating and biases most definitely have an influence, I just find it odd. To be honest it's why I tend not to do numbered ratings as I think they are inherantly flawed in a team game. Had it had been Dier that made that mistake he'd be getting 0s and 1s and all over.
