Any Idea's? I honestly dont know who to pick as MOM. Lloris by default? Chadli? Kane?

On reflection I will go for Kane whose coming on changed the mood leading to Chadli's goal then his

Gut reflex says Kane. Completely reinvigorated our attacking play and scored the winner. But tbh that says more about how nobody else, bar Mason in patches, graced themselves.

Mason was the only player who looked like he cared in the first half. He was trying to do three jobs at once.

Townsend changed our attack.
True. I got more disagree ratings on one post than I've ever had before when I wrote that Townsend was awful against Brighton. But he was very positive today.

Definitely Mason for me, kept us ticking over and always looked for the quick forward pass. Drove the team forward for the whole 90 minutes.

Too harsh on all our subs IMO. But dead on with the starting XI.

Lloris - 6 - nothing to do only one shot on target which went in
Naughton - 5 - least poor defender on the day
Kaboul - 3 - very poor, Benteke had him for breakfast
Vertonghen - 5 - not at his best
Rose - 4 - really poor positional sense and weak for their goal, no better going forward
Mason - 7 - best player first half, tried to make things happen
Capoue - 2 - one of the worst performances I seen from a Spurs player he was a disgrace to the shirt today
Chadli - 6 - generally poor but came up with a big goal at an important time
Eriksen - 5 - poor all game, poor set pieces and offered no work rate to track back and protect the defence
Soldado - 5 - was ok first half though missed a good chance second half went missing
Adebayor - 5 - should have scored, did very little else and was outmuscled by weaker men
Lamela - 6- decent work rate and put in a decent cross for the first but wasn't anything special today
Kane - 8 - he changed the game with his work rate and he came up with the winner (lucky though it was)
Townsend - 6 - he too played a role in upping our tempo and was better than the man he replaced

Poch - 2 - very very poor today, at least he corrected some of his own mistakes

Lloris - 7 no chance on the goal.

Rose - 5 bad day for him. out of position much of the game giving them acres of space on his side.

Verts - 7 solid game.

Kaboul - 6 got caught ball watching on Weimans goal.

Naughton - 6 defended well enough, very indecisive when going forward

Chadli - 7 worked hard, rewarded with a goal

Mason - 7 generally played well, also ball watching on the goal

Capoue - 6 not a good day for him.

Ericksen - 6 lackluster performance by his standards.

Ade - 6 worked very hard but doesnt look he could finish a glass of water

Soldado - 6 didnt hear his name called much

Kane MOTM. Demanded the free kick and scored (with a little luck).

TBH, I thought we played pretty well in the first half and in the second half Villa and the ref melted down slowing the play. Kudos to the team for playing through it and winning. It wasnt great stuff but it wasnt a smash and grab either.

BTW, on the Villa goal Weimans runs past Mason and Capoue who just watch him before striking the ball with Kaboul not coming out to challenge him. Absolutely maddening to watch.

Fans 10.
Poch 6.5 mainly have allowing ade to start the second half.

Kabul 4. Ball watching to much, solid in the air otherwise.

Rose 3/4. Not tracking back, too far up the pitch. Lazy.

Coupe 5. Ball watching to much.

Mason. 8 kept trying, solid.

Ade 3, missed some sitters, out of position a lot. Needs to be dropped.

Kane. 8 brought the urgency we needed, luck free kick. Got to start the next PL game.

Everyone else 7.

Lloris - 7 - Played well, couldn't do anything about the goal

Naughton - 6 - Defended ok, a lot of mis-placed passes though

Kaboul - 3 - Benteke gave him the runaround from the first minute. Kaboul had absolutely no clue whatsoever where he was. If Benteke was up to full match fitness he could have had a hat-trick. Kaboul had no clue where the player was for the first goal either. Time and time again in the second Benteke made the same run through the defenders, Kaboul had absolutely no clue again where he was. Very very poor.

Vertonghen - 6 - Defended ok, always having to cover for Rose's surging runs, was caught in two minds whether to stay or go because of it. Coped well considering

Rose - 5 - Got forward well brilliantly as always yet the delivery wasn't the best. Defended ok but nothing marvelous, left Vertonghen to cover way too much.

Eriksen - 4 - Couldn't pull the strings well enough, Villa closed him down quickly as they see him as a threat

Capoue - 3 - Dreadful for a lot of the match. At times he didn't even run or track players that were running in behind the midfield. Atrocious for the goal he was like a statue. The game changed once he was subbed

Mason - 6 - Ran around non stop, full of commitment, always trying to get us going. Decent performance.

Chadli - 6 - Make some lung busting runs, always moving and keeping the centre backs busy, took his goal very well indeed

Adebayor - 4 - First twenty minutes he was good, maybe should have scored a goal against Guzan, then after that he went into the dreaded lazy mode

Soldado - 5 - Excellent through ball to Ade, some excellent touches but after the half hour mark he was very quiet. Better than Ade though.

Lamela - 5 - Showed skill, very little end product. I didn't like him waving an imaginary card for Benteke either. There is a good player in there somewhere

Townsend - 7 - Didn't shoot from everywhere today, gave us more options, the defenders were getting dragged out of position because of it, made a big difference today and it was a more mature performance

Kane - 8 - MOTM - Came on and straight away tested Guzan and their defenders, a right nuisance. Demanded the ball for the freekick and won us the match, full of running too

---

Ponch made excellent subs near the end and got a Get Out Of Jail card. We were poor from the 20-70 minute mark, he really needs Levy to listen to what he wants. AVB wanted Moutinho and we failed. Ponch wanted Schnerdlin and Musacchio but gets Fazio and Stambouli, he has to work with what he's got but I think today papered over the cracks. We weren't that great

Kane - 8/9, just for the way he changed the game.

Mason, Soldado and Chadli were OK.

The rest were dreadful, and have been massively bailed out today imo.

Mason, Soldado, Kane, Lamela are getting a mention just because from the red card onwards they gave the impression that the performance so far had angered them and that they actually cared a bit.

Sadly Poch gets 0. We were worse in the second half than the first and we lost all shape with his substitutions.

Mason 8 .. best player by a mile in the first and got Benteke sent off (we would have lost against 11)

Kane 7 for demanding the free kick

Rose, Kaboul, Capoue 3 for poor defending throughout

Rest 6 for first half, 4.5 for second

I know a lot of people are calling for Harry Kane and understandably so, but Mason worked his socks off for the full 90 minutes, played forward passes at every opportunity and also drew the foul from Benteke for the Red Card. Without him we wouldn't have stood a chance.

Mason MOM for me.
