Reading this I am genuinely surprised that people are picking midfield players ast MOTM - the structure of the side in that area of the pitch is a real problem N'dombele got isolated from the other pair and though the game wasn't a midfield battle by any means I thought it was an area of the pitch which we really struggled both in terms of supporting the ball and retaining it.

I thought Hoji was alright and Sissokko is a hole filler and I am not criticising the individuals but I would have said defensively we were solid and if there was a MOTM then perhaps a defender. It wasn;t a great performace overall and there was I think a bit of an hangover from the West Ham game in a side trying to manage a home win.

Not a good performance from the majority of the players IMO - to be honest I think if Mourinho let's the players who started the Antwerp game finish the game and lets the others (particularly Son) have a proper rest in mid-week then I reckon we'd have seen a far stronger performance today.

Lo Celso looked good when he came on

Thought the whole defence played well, aside from the goal which should never have stood Brighton didn’t really trouble us. PEH did well, Sissoko put in a good defensive shift but with his limitations, Ndombele poor when we had possession and Son pretty ineffective we struggled to keep the ball or build any pressure. I’ve gone with Reguilon as MoM for great ball for the winner and he was pretty solid throughout the match, didn’t think Lamptey got the better of him.

Sometimes I find it hard to measure players when they clearly have been given specific instructions which they have carried out. For example, I am sure Sissoko got a 9/10 from Jose for what he did last night. But for me, a CM in a team with top 4 aspirations, he hid from the ball, offered little to our attacking play, and was more of a 5 or 6 out of 10. But Jose clearly wanted him there to ensure Brighton did not win any second balls that allowed them an overload in our last third, and he did that well. However, if another player makes an individual mistake (see Davies last week), or the ref makes a gaffe (last night), or VAR / new rules are crap (Newcastle at home) and we don't win, I will see Sissoko's perfromance in a negative light overall. Ultimately I see our tactics as a little too negative given the current rules (handball, VAR reviews etc.). In the current climate the more the ball is in your opponents box the more likely they are to be the ones who get a crap ruling. And the more you defend a lead the more likely you are to concede than at any time in footballing history.

I think Brighton was easy to play against for us.
Brighton has good players who want to keep the ball but they don't shoot; they don't pour enough players forward either. This is a good type of opposition for us because it allows us to sit deep, and in the end the quality up front made the difference.
I think it's a tactically good performance.
Lampty looks good.

I only saw the MotD highlights but it looked like we were full of fight, going for every 50/50, and generally being a completely different team with a different attitude to Thursday so reading comments on here is a bit strange. I was expecting to come in and see praise for our fight and determination.

H's shithousery for the pen is classic Mourinho. Drogba used to do that shit all the time. Their goal should have not stood. I dont see how hacking down Hojbjerg isnt a foul. We hit the woodwork twice. So it could easily have been a 4-0 comfortable win but for those fine margins.

Bale MotM for getting that that first goal for us nice and quickly.

Thats not how it works. If we wouldn't have conceeded the equalizer we probably wouldn't have gone for another goal and the woodwork actions and the 2nd goal wouldn't have happened maybe.

@carpediem991 To clarify, you stated "it doesn't work like that" and then went on to explain this by invoking ifs and maybes.

Hojbjerg. Then Toby. It wasn't a classic, but we got the three points and Harry didn't get injured. The team worked hard and battled hard against a good team that played well.
