keeping it simple today -- an appreciative 7.5 for everyone :stop:

there were A LOT of players out there today who had not been on the pitch in a LONG time plus many had not played together before today :mask:;)(y)

Chadli for MotM, good on ya me ol' sahn!! COYS!! :singing:

If we don't play a damn sight better than that we won't progress any further in the Cup and will miss out on 4th place in the league.
That was a shitty performance we should have had at least four by half time.
If we can't break down Colchester then how are we to get past consistent, Premiership teams.

And where's our new striker???

Oh. FFS.

Girlfriend just blow you out?

This was a typical game FA Cup game, the likes of which we've seen many times. All the usual cliches apply, much lower league side but who will obviously play without any pressure, on a blustery day on a bobbly pitch against a miss mash young team of the odd first teamer, kids, reserves and players who haven't played much first team football this season.

Do we ever expect these games to be anything other than what we invariably get. A miss mash of some decent play, some erratic stuff (not like we don't get that anyway) and some poor stuff as well as a little minnow with nothing at all to lose having a bit of a huff and puff second half.

These games are rarely designed to make the big team look good. That's the point isn't it. Considering the side put out, the conditions and the occasion I think we handled it OK.

I don't think the two young lefties Carroll and Bentaleb are the most symbiotic balance for a CM2. They are a bit samey and both very left biased.

I really don't understand why we felt it was worth risking and tiring Kane and Eriksen out with a game on tuesday, both have played a lot of football and are pivotal. We could have played Son and Onomah and both would have not been wanting for energy and desire and would have kept us honest if not quite as polished.

Everyone was careless with the ball at times. I know in the match thread people were bemoaning Carroll and Bentaleb's performance but neither have played regular football, this was Bentaleb's 2nd start in about six months, both coming in tricky away cup ties in ad hoc sides, he still saw more ball than anyone on the pitch, making 105 passes at 89%. Not bad for a 20yo in those conditions having his second start in six months. Tom Carroll also saw shitloads of the ball (86 passes at 93%). Basically misplacing 7 passes out of 86. Not the tragedy that many were wailing about.

I also noticed that everyone, including Eriksen were at times under hitting passes because of the pitch.

Dier made a few poor decisions, but again was playing only his second game at CB this season, next to a LCB also making his second or third start this season. Hardly surprising they didn't always look like the vastly more experienced Toby and Vertonghen.

Chadli once again proved that while he's not Kane, he can certainly fill in if called on, two goals, and got himself into positions and on another day could have had a couple more, and lets not pretend Kane gets it right most of the time, he doesn't, he couldn't score for the first month of the season and he repeatedly fucks away good situations with the odd bumble and tunnel vision greed. Back ups are back ups for a reason. Chadli, Son and when we want something different Njie will do me absolutely fine, there's no-one out there sitting on the "back up" shelf I can think of who will offer us more.

I think Tripper had a very decent game overall, looked so much more sure footed when going forward than Walker, more trusting in his own technique under pressure to deliver.

Tricky little tie dispatched with relative comfort by a mix and match side. Life could be worse.

Individual

Vorm - OK

Tripper - Very good game, got forward well and delivered several great balls when he did.

Dier - some shaky moments like letting balls bounce etc but overall OK.

Wimmer - Good game.

Davies - Good game

Bentaleb - I think it would have made more sense and better balance to pair him or Carroll with Winks. Not his greatest game, careless with the ball a couple of times, but along way from the disaster some would have us believe.

Carroll - As per Bentaleb, but still some bright moments and neither of these hide from the ball.

Lamela - not a great game really.

Eriksen - ok

Chadli - decent enough game, scored a very good goal, got into the 6 yard box to score s header, typically missed s sitter as well, still frustrates a bit without the ball but was vet involved in the game.

Kane - not great and very greedy a few times. Must learn.

We obviously missed Dele Alli, don't you think BC ?

Didn't see the game but my dad reckons that Lamela was awful? Any truth in that as my dad says that pretty much every time I speak to him.

Alvin Martin was also very critical of him on the radio commentary that I was listening to.

I thought he was our worse player, but not awful, just back to being mediocre, like Lamela of last season.

I don't think Poch will have been happy with that, although the silver lining is that one or two showed their quality, whilst others confirmed that they're back to having it all to prove.

In particular, Poch will have been pleased with Trippier and Chadli, who showed form, ability and composure despite the disjointed efforts of the rest of the team.

The Wimmer-Dier partnership didn't quite click, even if it wasn't disastrous in the context of this game, but tbh I was surprised he rested Toby for this one as I'd have thought he and Wimmer would want every chance to acclimatise to each other.

On the subject of resting players, I've no idea why he started Kane on a heavy winter pitched lower league football ground when he needs every chance he has to try out his plan B team should Harry miss some games

On the other side of the coin Lamela, TC, and Bentaleb will feel like they didn't quite manage to put their hands up yesterday. Lamela has shown enough over this season for these recent throwback performances to be overlooked, unlike last season however there are players in his favoured AM who are starting to perform week in week out, and I'm sure Coco will feel that barring injury to another he'll start on the bench on Tuesday.

TC will also be on the bench, but unlike Lamela will probably think his prospect of game time at all will be low, and I think Bentaleb will have to wait until the next round of the FA Cup before he gets another look in, and even then it may only be a position on the bench. All three have a chance to prove those predictions wrong on the training ground I guess, and of course there's the lottery of injuries.

Thought it was a great run out! In third gear most of the game, which is just the relief we needed given the demands on our squad, and that was enough to get the job done. The low level of pressing, tempo and energy was evident, but completely understandable given the opponent. Think the lack of tempo, the wind and the pitch affected the games of Carroll and Bentaleb in particular.

Bentaleb, I feel, is someone whose positives far outweigh the negatives. He's still so young, has strength and desire, will never give up on a tackle and will chase down opponents. He still has those scary, casual moments at the wrong end of the park, but I think the increased playing time will continue to help him and the team going forward.

Feel Dier needs a rest. He did fine, but he's been an almost ever present in the line up and that's shown in recent games. Wimmer did well today, and dealt with most that came his way, on the ground and in the air. I like the full back rotation Poch has got going. I think we're the envy of most clubs in that department, and Trippier's gaining confidence with each outing.

Didn't think Kane needed to play, and was relieved to see him subbed. Chads was a monster today! MOTM easy! Loved the desire, the drive and the incisiveness he showed, and that eye for goal! We needed him today, and he delivered.

Just shows the depth, strength and unity of the squad we've got right now! And we have to remember that right now, we're in with a realistic shout for a trophy on three fronts. It feels distinctly unspursy, about f'ing time, and I love it!

Thingy Carroll and Nabil were shocking. Nabil I can sympathise with a bit as it's only like his 3rd or 4th appearance, but Carroll has had a fair few shots to prove himself, but imo hasn't done so.

Nothing against either, but they're both wasteful with the ball and too often concede possession.

There's no excuse vs. a League 1 (soon to be League 2) side.

Also, are there still and Chadders doubters out there? Shoot yourselves now please. This guy has proven time after time that he is a goalscorer!

If you call having a 25 yarder hitting the post, setting up Chadli goal with a great pass, a shot deflected just past the post mixed in with a couple of bad passes (and most of the team doing exactly the same) yeah bad game.

I dont think he had one of his better days. Maybe not bad, but certainly not great.

76% pass completion, only 2 key passes, 0 tackles.

Not the Lamela we expect if im honest. He had decent moments but he was a little erratic against an opposition i would expect him to much better against.

Missed the first half as the game clashed
with grand-childrens league match
in the Madrid under 12 section
(Fuente el Saz Alevin (Hatchling trouts) B
v Daganzo under12's.

Anyway here are the ratings.
Danny........5......Good on the ball, poor off it. Positional play needs work
Luke...........6......Starved of the ball up front but made some good runs.

Fuente el Saz held out until the last ten minutes
against a much stronger side conceding two late goals.
Plenty of work on the training ground to be done this week.

Spurs. Did the necessary without too much fuss.
Fuente interested in signing Chadli. Could make a splash in this team.

(Hatchling trouts, make a splash.
Oh please yourselves

Agreed the post was in response to he was awful which he wasn't.
Erratic would be a pretty good description of his display.
Luckily for us we now have Chadders hitting form which is perfect for the run in.
Plenty of games in the Europe and FA cup to find his former again.:)

thats the beauty of our squad right now..... different players hitting form at different times and getting rewarded for their performances.
