My mate from Newcastle claims that there was a big offer for Carroll and chris didn't want to sell but Ashley wanted the money, an argument then ensued and chris was gone.

However, He was up watching videos of luka and saying how newcastle were going to sign him the night we did. What a great moment that was, especially as it was at about 2 when I told him

I always thought CH was a No 2 and gave him until Xmas but was then pleasantly surprised not to see them strugglling too much. Feel very sorry for him but I suspect that since Ashley didn't see him as a long-term appointee the decision was based, after their recent dip in form, on the utter fear of things going south and having to find a manager to keep them up. Much better to make the change now from a position of relative safety

I have to admit I have had an apparent soft spot for Newcastle simply on the basis of hoping Hughton was successful. Now I hope they crash and burn and end up in the Championship again.

Re Wilkins: I think he could do a very good job for someone but he'd had to start off at a smaller side and prove himself
