I wouldn't call Ricardo Rodriguez realistic - seems to be a lot of clubs better than us watching him
No disrespect meant, but I find it really irksome to hear fans of our club speaking so negatively about us and our chances of signing players. Bearing in mind the amount of world class players who have pulled on the shirt it doesn't ring true either.

I think its more a case of a lot if us being realistic rather than negative but some people dont like to hear hear or read such things.
A lot of the players that we are linked with wont be interested in us due to lack of champions League or huge wages which both We dont do.
But thats not to say we cant attract anyone because clearly we do but even players like lovren etc are more likely to choose other teams like liverpool who stand more chance of winning The title or top four plus the work that rodgers has done would not have gone unoticed.
There are some positives for us next season as I expect us to finish top six again without getting badly smashed like we did last year that would be good news for starters.

We can have any player in the world as long as we get him at the right time.
Like Messi, at age 12.
When players demand and are offered elsewhere titles, Champions League, 200k+ wages however ... we're currently not in a position to compete. Doesn't mean we're negative towards our club when we state as such.
Of course we've had better players than Ricardo Rodriguez before, perhaps we even now have some who are better in our current squad. However, if Liverpool had landed Hoddle, United Gazza and Berbatov, Chelsea Modric - before we had signed them, then they'd never had played for us (at least not in their prime)

Left back - Rojo (£12m)
Centre back - Lovren (£18m)
Left winger - Depay (£15m)
Striker - Remy (£10m)

TOTAL: £55m spend

I think that's a realistic amount of money with realistic targets.

I really won't mind if we take this season to take stock. Only buy the very necessary like a LB. If by the January window, we've overachieved and gunning seriously for one of the CL places, then by all means let loose the purse strings and get a couple of impact players to augment our challenge.

Otherwise, I would be happy if we just sign lesser known players with an eye for building for the future.

United could have signed Berbatov before we did, but seem to have decided to let us try him out for them first.

LB Marcos Alonso
CB Simon Kjaer (OK, I pulled that one out of my ass)
LW Michu
FW Lukaku

Oh, and I wouldn't say 'no' to Milner but we don't need him and so it would totally depend on cost (transfer & wages)

Don't think Alonso would be a bad option. Was generally impressed by him when at loan on Sunderland...that sounds familiar but...ah well.

Too hard to say what is realistic. Well, saying something like Ronaldo would be stupidly unrealistic, but even saying someone like Ricardo Rodriguez could be deemed unrealistic. Wolfsburg don't need to sell and I'm sure plenty of other clubs, bigger than us, are eyeing him up. He'd be realistic only if we were willing to pay a lot of money for him. Regardless, my choices (whether unrealistic or not)

Fabian Schar
Ricardo Rodriguez
Morgan Schneiderlin
Romelu Lukaku

So that's 11 players. You're not sticking to the rules of this game my friend!

Pjanic would be awesome, but not a snowball's chance in hell.

in terms of home grown players i'd take cole, milner and jay rod/welbeck. addresses two problem positions and milner would fit in with poch's high energy/pressing game whilst adding some versatility.

Some relevant news today folks, as Moreno has a tibial fracture. Affects many of the above lists.
