Yesterday, i made i concious decision not to buy, read or wipe my arse with those literary gems such as News Of The Wank, Star, Sun, Mirror or Hate-Mail.
The reason?
Complete and utter fabrication of so called 'transfer' stories, blatently lazy journalism (who could forget the 'Gary O'hara' revelations) and a million and one other examples that i can't recall.
Reading those kind of articles in days gone by would just make me chuckle and then instantly forget about it. But now, i just find myself getting more and more angry with every bullshit 'exclusive' that i read.
EXCLUSIVLY FUCKING MADE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:bang::bang:

And now the 'Keane to liverpool' fairytales are vindicating my decision.

Rant over.

I stopped buying papers years ago, of all types.

There's not one major paper out there that hasn't run at least one inexcusable (in my eyes) anti-spurs article over the years

Yes, I'll read the internet versions- but actually paying for them to put the knife in us - won't do it

(Disclaimer - about once every two months or so if i'm taking a trip to the seaside by train or some other long journey, I just might buy a paper - but on any kind of regular basis - no way)

Agree about those papers. Still, take into consideration the fact that SUN were the first to announce the Modric deal. Sometimes, they are much better than (some of the) so called ITK

It's not just the red-tops, some of the so-called 'quality' papers are also nothing more than a waste of trees.

FWIW I'd say stick to the sport, you know the 'journalism' is complete fiction but at least there's a decent amount of breasts.

Many fans still believe everything they read in the papers and are hungry for football gossip thus creating a huge and competitve market for such stories.

The papers then have to have the biggest and best football releated stories all the time, often there are no real stories they have access to so they simply make them up and qualify them with a 'source close to...'

I dont really believe a thing I read in these papers, there is certainly nothing Spurs releated I couldnt just read here. Its a shame there is not better regulation of the factual accuracy of their stories, its just so hard to police and prove they fabricated the story (instead of printing what they believed to be true)

You would think by now fans would have wised up and got bored of these stories and decreased demand for the tosh (which would hopefully result in a reduction of it)

They were pretty quick on the Giovani deal aswell, saying he'd signed a week before it was made official. But then they spoiled it all with the Santana story.

Here's an example of a 'quality' paper being every bit as much of a dogwanker as a redtop.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/07/01/ufnkeane101.xml

Not only have they nicked the sourceless Keane story from the sun, they've spelled Tottenham as 'Tottenahm', they fail to remember that we are also one of Crouch's former clubs and they follow the redtop trend of calling Bent a flop despite his stats when he's played being about the same as our other strikers.

Also, where does this strong friendship with Gerrard and Carragher come from? I always thought Keano was always seen out with Given and Duff.

Now you've done it! How long before we see a "Kegan, keen on Keane" headline?

And he's mates with Carrick. Cue the "Fergie to bid for Keane and Berbatov" stories.

Just because they had the front to run a story linking one of our players elsewhere? It's all good fun when we're linked with Ronaldinho, Van Bommel, Ronaldo, Shevchenko et al but when the shoe's on the other foot you start crying.

Diddums.

gave up all tabloids over 3 months ago and it's had a very positive effect at work, being that i actually do more work and don't feel stressed at about 10.30 each day. i refuse to read the sun (the worst) simply because it's too powerful an entity and i'm sick of people basing all their entire opinions on life, the war and the state of the nation on the poison and bullshit they spout daily.

My housemate came running in to my room this morning, red top in hand crying "CROUCH TO SPURS IS A DONE DEAL".

Too many people believe the rubbish they spout.

Makes me laugh how people will bat off rubbish spouted in the Sports pages though will believe anything in the first half of the paper as gospel.

I work for the underground and have lost count how many people claim to know my job because of what they read.

Sensationalist nonsense. Reader beware.

I also gave up the tabloids a few months back.

The problem is that my bosses went and gave me internet access and now I find myself strangely drawn to the BBC Gossip page, which is absolutely the worst place to go as it just briefly summarises all the bullshit stories in one easy click:bang:

To be honest, I didn't give up the tabloids because of their bullshit transfer rumours. I finally got fed up looking at some stupid front page story only to find a serious news issue planted on page 10!!

example: Jordan gets a boob job = page 1
maniac runs through office block savaging all employees = page 22 (after the 3 fat slags and their entertainment news!)

absolutley spot on there mate. i went through a period of reading the Star, only to constantly find Danielle Lloyd or Lucy Pinder constantly gracing the front cover and the problems in Zimbabwei getting two paragraphs from page 8 onwards. i just check the football news on my phone occasionally and listen to talk sport, although all of this is is taken with a pinch of salt.
