Of the five teams that are fighting it out at the bottom; Derby, Bolton, Fulham, Birmingham and Reading are there any players we should be targeting? For my money we should try and snaffle Brian McBride, he's coming to the end of his career and I reckon would perform well as a super-sub who wouldn't mind being mostly on the bench.

mcbride, no thanks, he is not at all consistant and his goal tally is scarilly bad,

at a push i would take shorey from reading or zarate from brum, but i dont think either would be 1st teamers

Giles Barnes, Kenny Miller, Kevin Nolan and Jasskalainen(sp).

Barnes and Miller would be good signings for us. People will dissagree with Nolan but I think he has a great attitude would definatley not be giving up on games as quickly as some of our current lot do. Jussi would be a short term fix, good keeper though.

Would anyone be interested in Kevin Davies from bolton as a sub? or even Jimmy Bullard from Fulham as a squad player(better than some of our midfielders on the bench)? Zarate is looking like a talented young lad worth snapping up and loaning out to a newly promoted side, Barnes would want a starting role so i guess he'll go to another promoted side next season.

edit: any players i mention would only be subs/back up or squad players at best.

I owuld have suggested Bullard, but I would think he would want to be 1st team and despite his enthusiasm he hasn't got the quality to drive us onwards.

Barnes, yes please
Zarate, yes please

Nolan, maybe, a change in environment might help him recover his form of two or three years ago
Jaaskelainen, maybe
Shorey, maybe, but do we need a left back?

Miller, no thanks, not good enough
McBride, no thanks, too old

I actually don't think we should try to sign anyone from those teams, can't really see anyone who would improve us significantly.

Oh, Bullard wouldn't be too bad.

no one that excite me but there are deifinate posisblilties

Nolan, Kitson, Barnes, jass

of all of them Kitson would be the one I think would fit in best to the squad. The rest would be fringe players but we have lots of fringe players in MF positions. Kitson would actually get bench time and opportunities as a sub.

Bolton was built around Big Sam's style, which is so far removed from us that I can't see any player being necessary

Derby are a league one side, which might just be offensive to league one sides

Sunderland have poor quality but Keane has done enough to keep them up. Gordon is quality and would be an improvement, but let's be fair....who wouldn't be

Reading - are any of their players going to help us into the top four? No. Kitson and Shorey play positions we don't need to strengthen anyway.

Fulham - are we really going to think about a team that was built by Lawrie Sanchez. I like Clint Dempsey, but he's not good enough for us.

Brum - they actually have potential players
Zarate looks like he has the potential to be a damn tidy player
Muamba, although he stinks of goon, is a young DM, who has show flashes of potential
de Ridder isn't bad, but hasn't adapted well and we looked at him once and didn't go for him
Kapo is quality but not the type of player we would be looking for.

Giles Barnes? Awful! Almost all of my mates from back home are unfortunate to be Derby fans and they all say if they can £3mil for him they would be happy to drive him to his next destination. So over-rated its silly. Wouldn't get anywhere near our team.

Isn't Zarate only on loan to Brum from some team from Qatar, who supposedly want nearly £20 mil to make it permanent. For £20 mil I'd say no chance.

I agree with that. Zarate is fooking immense, seriously how he went to Birmingham i'll never know, it'd cost us a cool £10m+ though. I think Giles Barnes is 1 for the future, definately worth snapping up. I'd like Leroy Lita as a spare though, really think with the right coaching he'd be a good back up.
In true Champ manager style i'd take the following :
Lita
G Barnes
Matty Taylor
Macfadden
Zarate
Actually in champ i'd buy them all and sell them for more money

I don't know if they are close to signing him. I'm sure it will cost a fair bit. That Qatar side paid £12m odd for him last summer. I doubt they will throw all that money away.
