To me, these are the most interesting posts, so I've put together a comparison list for us, Arsenal and Everton, viewing the remaining fixtures this season against the corresponding fixtures from last.

The results have surprised me, and I think it will be a massive ask for us to get the same points from these fixtures. Equally, I don't expect Arsenal and Everton to drop the same amount of point.

It's taken me a little while to put together, but hopefully it's as interesting for you guys as it is for me.

Tottenham

Last season results

West Brom (a) 3 - 1 W
Newcastle (h) 5 - 0 W
West Ham (a) 4 - 1 W substituted with Bolton (a)
Arsenal (h) 2 - 1 W
Liverpool (a) 0 - 0 D
Fulham (h) 2 - 0 W
Swansea (a) 1 - 1 D
Everton (h) 2 - 0 W
Chelsea (a) 0 - 0 D
Man City (h) 1 - 5 L
Wigan (a) 2 - 1 W
Southampton (h) 2 - 0 W substituted with Blackburn (h)
Stoke (a) 1 - 2 L
Sunderland (h) 1 - 0 W

This set of results would put us on a total of 72 points.

Arsenal

Last season results

Stoke (h) 3 - 1 W
Sunderland (a) 2 - 1 W
Aston Villa (h) 3 - 0 W
Tottenham (a) 1 - 2 L
Everton (h) 1 - 0 W
Swansea (a) 2 - 3 L
Reading (h) 7 - 1 W substituted with Blackburn (h)
West Brom (a) 3 - 2 W
Norwich (h) 3 - 3 D
Fulham (a) 1 - 2 L
Man U (h) 1 - 2 L
QPR (a) 1 - 2 L
Wigan (h) 1 - 2 L
Newcastle (a) 0 - 0 D

This set of results would put them on a total of 58 points

Everton

Last season results

Aston Villa (h) 2 - 2 D
Man U (a) 4 - 4 D
Norwich (a) 2 - 2 D
Reading (h) 1 - 1 D substituted with Blackburn
Arsenal (a) 0 - 1 L
Man City (h) 1 - 0 W
Stoke (h) 0 - 1 L
Tottenham (a) 0 - 2 L
QPR (h) 0 - 1 L
Sunderland (a) 1 - 1 D
Fulham (h) 4 - 0 W
Liverpool (a) 0 - 3 L
West Ham (h) 1 - 1 D substituted with Blackburn (h)
Chelsea (a) 1 - 3 L

Everton are clearly improved since last season and so we must apply a different measure here. After 24 games last year they had 30 points, and this season 41. This is approx 25% better off.

So if we total their points with last years, they would total 53 Points.

However, if we add 25% on to the 12 points they gained from these fixtures last year, we can estimate that they would total 15 more points, giving them a total of 58.

Enjoy everyone.

Well, all I can say after looking at that is that I hope we can see a repeat of those results from last year. That would see us finish 4th with room to spare!

Wow! Can this be true? I'm not sure how they do it, or if their calculations are shite, but even if they're only half right, it would seem we should finish 4th.
Or, am I completely misinterpreting it?

no, you're right.

we finished with 69 points last season, of the 24 games we've played this season we've taken three more points than we did last season, so if we just match the results from the remaining 14 games we'll finish on 72 points. arsenal finished with 70 points last season, they've taken 12 fewer points this season from the same 24 fixtures, so they need to take 12 more points from the remaining 14 fixtures just to equal last season's total.

It's not so much misinterpretation as a fools errand. This season isn't least season and last season's results have absolutely no bearing or influence on this season's games.

I totally agree, yet at the same time Man Utd are 5 points better off than last season, and Citeh are on point worse off. I wouldn't like to bet against MU winning it this year.

This is all well and good but still, on paper, it's hard to argue that we have a much harder run in than Arsenal. Everton's is the toughest of the lot, mind

You'd certainly like to think it won't matter, but Arsenal have Newcastle away last game, Everton have Chelsea away and we have Sunderland at home with is pretty pleasing.

I think the next 2 matches are really important for us.

West Brom away and Nouveaucastle at home. If we can manage to win them both, it would not only be a huge boost to our chances for 4th, but also moving forward. West Brom have seen their star fade pretty rapidly, but they should not be taken lightly in any fashion. They can pull goals out of nothing with some of their players, and they are decent enough to put us away early if we treat them as anything but a worthy opponent.

As for Newcastle, they look a completely different side. I'm going to pray that Cisse is banned for the match for his pretty mild "throat grab" on Cole (Grasping at straws, I know), but their midfield is fully capable of giving ours a run around with Cabaye, Sissoko (Should've signed him) and whoever else they put in there to round it out.

After those matches we have: West Ham (H), Arsenal (H), Liverpool (A), Fulham(H) and Swansea(A).

It's imperative we pick up the maximum points before we hit that tough stretch.

We seem meticulously set on outperforming our opposition by the smallest possible measurement so it doesn't really matter who we play. If we think they're shite we nonce about scratching our bollocks for the first half hour and if we're up against a good side we go at em hard but have to immediately stop if there's even the slightest chance of embarrassing a side or of even a single spurs fan feeling comfortable

Interesting to see that since I posted these results, only one of the fixtures (Everton vs Man U) has ended differently.

Hopefully that trend continues.

Man City done the best out of all the teams with their corresponding fixtures and if results mirror last year they would get a total of 83 points.

So now we have all the totals and that translates in to a final projected league table (excluding Man Utd) of this.

.....................PLYD.....W.....D.....L.....PTS
2...Man City......38......25......8......5......83
3...Tottenham..38.......21......9......8......72

6...Arsenal........38.......16.....10....12.....58
7...Everton........38.......13.....14....11.....53

I hope things work out this way. Goal difference would decide between us and the chavs but thats not really important as with arse finishing 6th, it still looks good. Obviously this is all unlikely but I would love it.

I would really love it.

Arsenal definitely won away to West Brom last year. I remember because it broke my heart...
