------------Ferdinand----Rebrov-------------

Etherington--Poyet----Freund-----Anderton

Thatcher----King------Campbell--------Carr

--------------------Sullivan------------------

That team couldn't compete for shit!

When compared to our current 11, it would get dicked. Freund, FFS!!! No team in the EPL has cack like Freund anymore!

Rebrov was a flop, and Poyet, as much as I love the guy, couldn't play central midfield. In fact, I seem to remember that was a regular criticism of Gus; for all his skill and flair, he was a player without a position. He didn't really fit into ANY system!

Anyway, Gibbs, I respect your right to voice an opinion, but you're WAY off with this one.

You know Fruend was a German international right?

 - a European Cup Winner, a European Championship Winner, and a couple of German League titles.

I know what you're saying gibbs - I can't believe it either!!

I suspect (I can't be arsed to search for the proof but I know I'm right) that if you take in intermediate team say 2004 -5 it would have been and improvement on 2000 but won't quite be to the quality we have now and what that points to is continuous improvement.
Continuous improvement is critical to a club like ours, we can't do it straight away, we have no rich Russian or mega rich middle eastern benefactor so we have to do it steadily and I think it's fair to say that we are doing it successfully in spite of various blips.

People forget that players such as Sullivan, Carr, Davies, Anderton, Armstrong and Ferdinand were not always rubbish.

Anderton was never rubbish, he was injury prone but he was never rubbish in fact he was a match and more for any of the midfielders we have now and I happen to think our current midfielders are excellent.

It's such a shame that his injuries seem to have blinded people to just how good a player he was.

(Eddiebailey I quoted you but only to carry on your point not dispute it)
