According to some blog after ledders had a good game against Liverpool this year, which I think most centre backs in the country did this year lol.

Still, not for me
Yep, I could put a thousand articles up here, all praising him and you'd still dig your heels in hey?

I wonder if you even read it.

Post away fella......

What am I digging my heels in about? He's not a great player? Pretty sure I've established he is. But I don't want to retire his shirt. Where as members such as yourself seem to want to make him immortal when he's nowhere near that category of player (due to that knee, blog post helped thanks ;-) )

Well, TBH I've not posted one way or the other on the retirement of the shirt. Where, on the one hand, I'd welcome it as I truly believe he was the best in the World, bar none, in his prime, My head tells me that there are players from bygone era that probably, no definitely, deserve the accolade more. Blanchflower and Mackay are the first that spring to mind, Hoddle the next.

Having said that, were we to do that then I'd want the same done for King. It's not about what he won for the club, it's about the service and the place he has in the hearts of Spurs fans.
I never got to see the double side but my love of the club came from the stories my Dad told me about the players. He never banged on about the trophies, just what the players meant to him through the grace he felt they brought to the game and team he loved.
King is one of those players to me, someone I talk to my son about with the effortless grace he brings to the game.
I'd love for the shirt to be retired really, now that I think about it, he epitomises everything that makes Tottenham Hotspur mean what it does to me.

Not sure anyone 'hates' you Omar, I certainly don't.

The rhyming thing was, I felt, a bit of fun and I appreciate the feedback.

We disagreed, we move on, no grudges.

Peace;)

My post wasn't aimed at you, I enjoyed our banter yesterday.

It was aimed at the silent neg reppers.

Do we do this in Britain, have Spurs ever done it?

He was a great player, and I heard he will have a special area in the hall of fame with Darren Anderton!

It seems like a stupid gesture to me.

Yeah its true I think they do it in other parts of the world but not really in the UK.

I think City retired Marc Vivien-Foe's short but can't think of any others.

King was a great shirt and will go down a Spurs legend but quite equally we could have retired Gary Mabbut's shirt - I don't see how one has achieved more/given more than the other?

I think its quite an American thing to do and we don't need to retire his shirt - he will be remembered through the fans forever - we at Spurs do this so much better than anyone as our successes are so few and far between its what we cling on to (lol)

You've probably heard it ...but out of respect to Drogba Chelsea retired the stretcher.
