For those who cant be arsed to read it here are the key points he made, less than two months ago.

"I'm very content with my life and my time at Spurs.

"I want to play there as long as I'm happy and as long as I'm wanted.

"So I'm looking forward to a nice break and then going back to Spurs next season."

----------------------------------------------------------

For those of you who dont know why some people feel so aggrieved by Keane wanting to leave this is the reason.

Hes a liar.

Why didnt he state he wants to stay at spurs for as long as hes wanted, unless Liverpool, the team he loves after celtic and probably numerous others, come in with a bid...

PS: Dont move this as its a different discussion

you missed something mate :

"Over the last three of four years there has always been speculation that I'm going here, there and everywhere."

He said: "I'm having a summer off without people ringing saying 'Are you going here, are you going there?'

"So I'm looking fowrad to a nice break and then going back to Spurs next season."

please Keane, read what you said before your decision.

I've already said this in another topic, but it bears repeating - links with clubs 'here' and 'there' in previous years has meant Everton, Villa, Sunderland and Celtic. They are not the same as Liverpool.

Anyone who claims Keane is a liar or turns on him on the basis of those quotes needs to wind it in and have a word with his/herself. He's not a liar - at worst, he's simply had a change of heart.

The alternative to him saying what he said would be for him to have come out and said that although he was happy at the club, he would like to join a bigger club if the opportunity arose - and I'm sure you'd all have been delighted if he'd said that.

It's a shame that he wants to move, but ultimately we have to respect that he has the chance to move to a much bigger and better club than Spurs, and he is going about it in the right way. He's not pushing the move through the papers, he's just got his head down in training with his current team while hoping that the move sorts itself out. We have every right to be annoyed with Liverpool for the way they've handled the transfer, but where Keane is concerned anything more than disappointment that he wants out is an overreaction. He hasn't done anything wrong.

Oh so you would of been happy for Keane to come out in May and say he wants to move to Liverpool or Celtic?

Well said, good sir. He's human after all.

It's interesting to see how different people handle emotions differently. Some seem to want to ruin their memory of him, by focussing on the negative to make themselves feel better. Others will convince themselves they never really liked him anyway. Some will empathise and see where he's coming from, and some will just be sad.

It's fascinating charting people's emotional maturity. :) People are awesome.

He was a Liverpool fan as a boy, was he not? For that reason alone, I have no problem with him wanting to go there at all.

Agreed. People are almost as interesting as football .

Seriously though, nothing in any of Keane's quotes suggest he's a liar. I've always been in the camp that says Keane isn't a natural goalscorer and his all round play isn't that good. On the goal scoring front I've been made to eat my words somewhat, but I've always felt that if a good enough offer comes in for him we should seriously consider it. Now that appears to have happened, I feel slighlty saddened that 'Mr Tottenham' may be leaving, but no where near as disappointed as some on here. I actually think it could work in our favour if the club spends wisely.

I agree its a good deal for us if we can replace him with someone younger and just as good for the same money (or less) but that isn't the point in all this.

During the I love Tottenham interview he could have not spoke about wanting to see his career out with Tottenham blah blah blah as that is what helped cement his status as Mr. Tottenham. Of course the 6 years service and 100 goals played a massive part too but the interview was the icing on the cake.

I feel cheated and that he lied. Not once have I called him a name in all this. I'm disappointed with him and think he's making a mistake going to Liverpool where he'll end his career known as a career journeyman instead of a Tottenham legend.

But we still have no real idea of what's been going on behind the scenes, which is why I picked out the:

'…as long as I'm happy and as long as I'm wanted'

Well, he is entitled to change his mind just as some fans are entitled to feel aggrieved. More than the fact that he has a sudden change of heart, it is the unexpectedness of this decision where most Spurs fans only expect Berbs departure that have left us deeply disappointed that Keane intends to leave as well.

He was least likely to leave amongst Bent and Berbs when the season ended but just a sudden interest from Pool and he ups and go. I expect that over time, most fans will come to terms and understand his reasons for going but at this point, a number of fans are understandably upset for the fact that they have always expected him to be at the club till the end of his career. His posture, quotes, and commitment to a new 5 year contract only served to strengthened that feeling and this sudden change of mind has left many fans feeling lost, disappointed and even betrayed. They have invested some feelings in Keane as they feel that he has the club in his heart as they do. Shocked by this suddenly change in 1 month, it is only natural for some to react badly to this decision.

It is interesting for me that people refer to emotional maturity in relating to either of the camps of "I think he is fine to go and we understand" or " I think he is Judas" because either sides are just a reflection of difference in perception and therefore reaction, due to different emotional investments made on this player. A true Keane supporter would have reacted more badly as compared to an indifferent spurs supporter who will surely be more willing to understand Keane's motives for moving.

For me, after the initial shock of knowing, I now believe that it is a good decision for us to let him go now, if it is his intention to go, since it will be the highest amount we can get off a deal for him. It will definitely benefit us and whether it will be a good move for him, he will just have to find that out for himself. I am definitely in the indifferent camp. I just want the best for Spurs.

He is still wanted so why is he suddenly unhappy?

The only thing i can think of is always being subbed off, but that was done befor the interview was done. Unless he has decided sine then that its going to be more of a problem this season  but can see him being off the pitch more than on it for liverpool than us

Thats easy.

tRiKS' transitional guide from happy to unhappy
  1. Keane was happy
  2. He found out liverpool wanted him but he was at spursEek
  3. He was unhappy:cry:
Where Our Mr keane was concerend ignorance really was bliss.

I still have no real problem with him wanting to go there. I still think of the two Berb is better and harder to replace. I will miss the irish maradona though
