All reports when we signed him are that his wages are not that big at all.

we should loan with an option to buy get his wages off the books and accept £12 million or so as this was a poor buy given his age..

Why? Soldado is our second choice striker and its not close between him and Kane. His contribution is meager and he hasn't really showed improvement over the year and a half he has been here. I think we will be actively looking to offload him if there's an offer remotely close to what we paid, and he could be replaced with anyone who fits Pochettino's system and is good enough to at least push Kane for a starting spot.
So basically what I said.

Only happen if we get a replacement, which (key point coming up) IMO, won't happen.
We won't leave ourselves with just 2 strikers to play in 4 tournaments.

Unless we have a striker lined up I don't see this happening.
I think at this stage Mr Levy will do anything he can do to try and get something back for Soldado

He must realise the guy is never going to produce in a Spurs shirt and he probably regrets the signing as one of if not the worst signings in our history

The nearer the guy gets to 30 the quicker his value is going to reduce until he becomes a worthless asset we paid over £20m for and got next to nothing from

I think he'll be pimped out to Spain hard in the window but I don't think there will be anyone willing to give us more than about £10m for him. I suspect we'll manage to get him someone as a loan to a team a bit desperate for a striker and that will at least free up a birth in our squad and some money for the wage budget

Hopefully then he'll have a successful loan and increase his value or at the very least come back with a bit of confidence and be slightly less of a donkey on his return

What is really frustrating is to think of what we could have done with the money we spent on him when we were still well placed and imagine where we'd be now had we signed an effective striker - the only way I can take some silver lining from this mistake is my opinion that had we signed someone less useless they'd probably have blocked the path for Harry Kane's progression and maybe in the long run this will work out for the best (if Kane goes on to be top class)

Let's be honest - Soldado isn't offering us anything so even if we sell/loan and fail to replace it will be no big miss

I think if we got an opportunity to offload him for anything remotely decent to recoup some of the money we wasted on him we'd be fools not to snatch hands off for it even if it left us with a striker less

We could easily replace him with a loan of our own or even play someone like Chadli or Lamela up front if needed - it really isn't that difficult to replace a non goal scoring striker

I really don't think putting Lamela up front is a good idea. He's trying really hard to make an impact, last thing he needs is to be played out of position.

Chadli is a maybe but still maintain we won't sell Soldado, or loan him, in January without a replacement lined up.

I don't think it's a good idea but my point is he really couldn't do any worse than Soldado so Soldado would be no loss and that's why we should actively look to sell him or loan him to in some way offset the crazy money we spent on him regardless of whether or not we have someone to replace him in my opinion

I know what you mean by saying we wouldn't want to leave ourselves with only 1 striker but effectively Soldado is not an viable option because he simply fails to score goals so he we might as well have one striker already as things stand

Plus we could always loan a player who will at least give us more than Soldado and Ade are currently in the short term if no actual signings could be made during the window

Apologies for quoting my own post, but here's the link.

http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/549397/AC-Milan-Arsenal-Liverpool-11-5m-Stephan-El-Shaarawy

We aren't mentioned.

I read that earlier this morning. Do you know if he'd actually be of any use to us? I've took a look on Wikipedia and his scoring record isn't anything spectacular, but I seem to remember him being really hyped up a year or two ago? Not long turned 22 and has 10 full caps for Italy (only 1 goal though)..

Would be very surprised for Levy to turn down an offer for a loan to buy offer for Soldado given his age/performance ratio and our need for freeing up wages unless we've received an offer from elsewhere.
Torres!!
I think anything north of £5m would secure Sol's services. But for all those saying get rid of him and lazy c*** Ade fer nuffink-we only have 3 strikers at the club and no kids in the academy remotely good enough.

If Ade does not get picked tomorrow that could well be the end of him. If so I would like (?!) to see Bambi up front.

It really doesn't look like Ade will play for us again anytime soon

I think we will be desperate to sell him this window but I can't see us being able to offload him due to his wage demands

I think best case scenario we do what Man City did with him and get him a loan deal somewhere (hopefully for a fee of some sort) but at least to get someone to shoulder part of his wage expense.

He'll go off and be sensational again on loan and have more options in the summer as a result - but he'll never do it again for us in my opinion.

I think we need to be trying to offload both Soldado and Ade THIS window, they're both dead weight right now and taking up spaces in a squad which could be used to blood a youngster as we did with Harry or replace with someone who will actually be productive for us.

I agree with the poster that said it probably wouldn't be a good idea to play Lamela or Chadli up top but realistically if Harry wasn't available could either do worse than Soldado? It doesn't take much to equal or surpass the benefit of a non goal scoring striker to be fair

I love Soldado and he seems like a great guy, but it's just not worked out. At some point you have to score and he's not done that. He's clearly a very good player, and I think he has the best football brain of anyone in the team. His touches/flicks/through balls in his time here have been lovely, but for whatever reason it's not happening. I don't think he works that hard while out on the pitch either. Probably best for both parties if a move happens.

Agree with pretty much every word

I wanted him to be a star, I tried to support and believe in him (defend him when others wrote him off etc) but it has come to the point where you'd have to be delusional to still believe he can turn things around

It hasn't worked out and it isn't going to work out

He must be sold - for the best of the club and just as importantly for his own career

I remember a report on here that he was on around 67k a week

I am sure a deal can be done where we loaned him and paid say 17k a week of his wages and we bring in someone else on say £50k a week hopefully he has a great loan spell and we can sell for a good price etc...
