It's all gone a bit quiet on this deal?

But if we are loaning Onomah out also it leaves us a bit short overall in the midfield area for the cups etc, so we must have a number of midfield incomings lined up
It's only gone quiet because the media have stopped guessing as to what the hold up is. Truth is nothing has really changed since day 1. This was always going to drag on because of his contract situation.

Yeah, this is one deal where you don't need to be ITK to have a fair idea what's going to happen (not to say we don't appreciate your info (y)).

A player with one year left of his contract, who will not sign a new one and whose club has publicly stated he wants to leave and want an inflated fee for.

And in the other corner a certain Daniel Levy.

It's quite an interesting one, I can explain some of the stuff from everton's side with gylfi but not in public.

I'd assume when this deal is completed which is probably today, Barkley to us will start moving, we will probably meet the at 30 Million so Gylfi realistically costs everton 15 million.

For the outside looking in this seems like such a risky approach and depends upon the player being 100% committed to coming to us. Otherwise any number of teams could pay a higher fee and wages just to get this done, and I'm not talking about those with higher turnovers.

From Barkley's mouth alone it seems like he has given us some serious thought and decided he wants to play for us. The comments about playing with Dembele and Alli make me think it's wrapped up in his mind. Small matter of russian roullette and making Everton sweat as long as we can then we will strike.

Seriously think we need to crowd fund for Barkley's missus. She's already missed a haircut because of this dallying and served notice at Londis months ago.

How has it realistically cost Everton only 15 million ? How about the loyalty bonus they will have to pay Barkley ? Or the signing on fee they will have to pay Sigurdsson ? Or the agents fees they will have too pay to Barkley's agent and Sigurdsson's agent ? And you are assuming Levy will pay 30 million which is a very big assumption.

Got to think that the Gylfi deal would get the wheels in motion on this deal again...

Although there is always the chance Everton hold on in the hope that Chelsea or someone get desperate.

Not sure this will speed the Barkley deal up. They already said he was off, and wont play for them again, so its not like they were waiting to sign Sig as a replacement for him before letting him go.

Yeah, and with Barkley's timely injury/surgery this has got a Levy waiting game all over it.

we've already seen other teams linked, no doubt an Everton play that Levy will see right through and we're left with a staring contest, little do Everton know that Levy sleeps with his eyes open...

AFAIAC the longer Everton play the waiting game the less Levy will offer.

If it goes to the last day I could seriously see Levy offering £15m or a straight swap for Sissoko...

The biggest problem is Utd spending so much on Lukaku which means Everton don't need to sell him cheap. The Gylfi transfer is pretty much covered between the Lukaku sale and what Everton would have already had to spend on players. If/when they sell Barkley it will be just to get him out the door because he's not in their plans now. It wont be because Everton need the money.

I think those saying it will run until deadline day may be right. But hey we all love a deadline day signing dont we? I just hope we bring in a couple of players in the meantime so we feel a bit more relaxed over this one.

Could you not make argument the other way round? The fact that they got so much for Lukaku means they're not relying on as much money to fund their own transfers.

The reality is that I think the main factors in Barkley's price will be the (crazy) transfer market more broadly, and his contract situation and motivation to leave.

This will be £30m or there abouts. We all know it, but through a mixture of Everton's desire to make things difficult for us, our desire not to over pay and Barkley's injury, it's delayed matters.

I hate making bold statements about our transfers because they usually go wrong, but I'm fairly confident we'll get this guy. The issue is that he'll need to go through a full pre-season and won't really be up and running until mid to late September

I still think this will go to deadline day. If Barkley has his heart set on us and walks for free next Summer then Levy will absolutely shaft Everton on price.

And why wouldn't he. Paying more than 15-20m in this scenario is bonkers IMO.
