I still think this will go to deadline day. If Barkley has his heart set on us and walks for free next Summer then Levy will absolutely shaft Everton on price.

And why wouldn't he. Paying more than 15-20m in this scenario is bonkers IMO.
With the £4.8m sell on fee we get for Sigurdsson courtesy of Everton, maybe Levy will be willing to stretch to £30m for Barkley, especially considering the current state of the market, that wouldn't be a bad deal.

You don't really know Levy, do you? Does he strike you as the guy who goes "Oh, we have these extra funds now, let's use them to pay even more". A more actual scenario would probably be "We only receive 4.8M for Sigurdsson, so now we can pay you even less".

As much as we believe Everton will play hardball, the reality is that this is the last window they'll get anything for him. Come January nobody will be interested unless it's no more than a nominal fee, because clubs will just wait it out for a Bosman. As such, I think their deal price is coming down daily. It'll be £25m max.

The Gylfi sell on fee will have no baring on what we pay Everton for Barkley. We will only pay what Levy feels is the max he is worth.

From Barkley's mouth alone it seems like he has given us some serious thought and decided he wants to play for us. The comments about playing with Dembele and Alli make me think it's wrapped up in his mind. Small matter of russian roullette and making Everton sweat as long as we can then we will strike.
I've missed those comments- do you have a link please? I have tried searching myself!

I think that's Levy's plan.

The risk though is if someone like United decide they'd quite like him on their bench and just pay 25m because they can.

If Everton are on the verge of signing Siggy, I hope that means we can get Barkley sown up quickly.

Surely the onomah deal shows that we are confident of getting Barkley and if we do then he will be used as a CM, even if it's just as a backup option

I expect this will now move. Onomah going on loan opens up the squad place, we wouldn't have sanctioned that without an incoming who I expect is Barkley (before you say it, this is different to Walker). Add to that the timing of Edwards new contract (he's better suited to AM than Onomah's natural position) I'd expect to see him on the bench a few times this season with maybe some mins here and there, mostly in the cups.

We still need a pacy WF/FWD but that is more to do with Sissoko going I reckon, and that will be sanctioned once we have made progress there.

Onomah leaving does suggest to me that we will be looking at Barkley AND another attacker, especially if Sissoko goes.

We have Winks as cover at CM, possibility to use the Dier-Wanyama axis at a push (not ideal but not as bad as some make out, see end of season), and with Eriksen (and Barkley) as game chasing options also.

Not really, he's an attacking player (always cost more than defenders), also home grown, proven premiership quality, with a few years left on his contract. He's also Swansea's best player and so they were always going to want a mint for him. They also know Everton have the Lukaku cash to spunk

The prices are so all over the place this summer. It makes you wonder if it will ever come back down to how it was or if this is it. Will £10m now be £50m and so on? If this window happened in Championship Manager they would release a patch to fix it.

If we get Barkley for around £20m less than Everton got Gylfi we have done fantastic.

Man City signed Silva for a similar amount to Sig signing for Everton.

Values are all over the place and will eventually settle down and we will be left with a base price for average players again. Won't be this window tho

But there's probably a 100k difference in wages for the two though. That's the stumbling block for teams like us and Everton more than anything.

All things being equal I can't see why Gylfi Sigurdsson would be worth much, if any, more than Ross Barkley but the fact that Siggy went for almost £50 million reflects Everton's desperation to get him and what we pay for Berkley will reflect their desperation to avoid him leaving for nothing in ten months.
Just goes to show player quality isn't always the guide to player value.
Let's be honest it would be financially negligent to simply throw away £20-25 million.

West Brom made it personal, and that is almost always bad for business. I don't think Everton will take the same approach - or at least not to the degree that West Brom did with Berahino. They did not want to make things easy on Barkley, but Everton know they are better off the sooner Barkley leaves and takes the distractions with him.

Sigurdsson 48mil, it's a mad world.
Must be just me but these daft figures are putting me right off football. When the rest of us mortals struggle on there's just something revulting about this.

A bit like spurs ripping us off on a pre-season friendly. Given the numbers sold, I may not be alone in my thoughts.
