I've seen people say he has pace and athleticism... What? I'm sorry he is overweight for an athlete and I've never seen him sprint past anyone.

Why do people also this he can play deeper to take over from Dembele? Have you seen him tackle? Or track? Previous mnagers have said you cant give him much defensive responsibilty just let him play.

Maybe if he does the hard yards training with Poch he could develop into something but what that would be I dont know. He would need to want to do that though so why hasnt he already?

Doesn't Barkley play the same position as Alli?
Berkeley has been at his most effective this season either on or coming infield from the right wing. The opposite to Dele really. I suppose in the same position as Sisokko or Lamela.

Edit - according to the Everton article earlier.

Absolutely. He would need loads of coaching in anything defensive.

I think he'd be a good signing, will provide competition for Eriksen and Alli

Don't see him in a deeper role personally

Because it's possible for him to add qualities to his game?

I'm not necessarily saying he could play deep for us now, but I think he could be nurtured in that role. I don't think he will ever be mobile enough to occupy an attacking spot in the system we play.

Because Everton aren't Tottenham?

I'll echo what others have said. He has a lot of ability and potential from what I've seen of him. The main parts of his game that need work are his decision making and laziness - both of which can easily be improved with good coaching. With Poch always mentioning he loves flexibility from his players I think signing Barkley makes a lot of sense. He has the technical ability to play in attacking positions but with the right coaching to improve his discipline and defensive concentration he could easily play as one of the deep CM as well - and it's where I feel he will eventually end up. He has a very similar skill set to Dembele in his physique, athleticsm and dribbling ability so if he applies himself correctly there is no reason why he couldn't fulfill his potential as Dembele's successor.

If there is a realistic chance that either (or both) Ali and eriksen could leave in the next couple/few years, would it not make sense to explore the opportunity that is Barkley?

Yes we have other talent coming through, but let's make the competition to start for Spurs, as hard as it possibly could be, and then play the best. Simple.

In a nutshell...... I want us to sign Barkley. And it will generally excite me to see him in our team/squad.

Lamela is downright 50-50 among Spurs fans. Am pretty sure, Barkley will be well far liked/favoured than him.
End of the day, if he performs, he will be revered. Its in his hands.
Ive no doubt if he came and got 10+ assists and scored a few goals for us most people would get off his back and support him.
Are you both ignoring the fact I brought up Eriksen who does perform does get 10+ assists and goals and yet...still gets criticisized heavily.

The moment he signs his value will shoot up purely because of his 5 year contract so it makes sense from a financial point of view to sign him

He will not cost more then 25m

I think the vast majority of people now recognise Eriksen as an absolutely superb player for us. You will always get the odd idiot though.

They do now, but the first couple of months of the season, when he was out of form he was getting dog's abuse on the match day and ratings threads.

Yeah but my point was that if Barkley performs on the pitch then most people will eventually come round to him nomatter what they currently think of him.

If the price is right it could be a good signing but I hope that Winks and Onomah get more minutes next season.

The more I think about it, the more I want him to come.

He'll probably end up playing either at 10, or a deeper role at number 8.

It's a squad game right now and although we are not desperate, he would add something different from the bench or starting line up, depending on who we're playing.

I feel under Poch, he could become something special. He has the right tools to be the player he promised at the start of his career.

He's still only 23 and has the potential to progress rapidly.

On that basis, why would any player improve under Pochettino?

I can't believe that Pochettino, who I think probably knows a thing or two about coaching, hasn't thought about whether there's room for improvement.

from an Everton Forum

But you won't shift your view, and many other Evertonians unfortunately hold the same incomprehensible view of him too. I don't blame him for wanting to leave.

He'll go to a top club, he won't go to any club below the stature of Everton and whatever club gets him will get an unbelievable bargain on him because of our stupidity as a club over the whole situation. And it's a massive shame.
