Finally seen the foul/tackle as I didn't get to see all of the match and it's clearly spearing - Warburton had to go.

Disagree. Sorry. Much much worse tackles get far less than a red. Controversial and ridiculous decision. Sin bin would have been more than sufficient.

As the "Irish" referee was Alain Rolland whose father is French and who speaks French fluently and probably loves eating garlic-smeared frogs' legs, the red card decision does not surprise me in the least.

Over an hour with 14 men and such a close result. Dda iawn Cymru!

from the Telegraph

Anyone who plays the game will know that it was outrageously unjust. I was looking at the tackle through my binoculars and the first reaction was hard but fair. Warburton hit Clerc hard and drove him. Gravity took over and the France wing hit the ground.

The trouble is that under the laws I am not sure that referee Alain Rolland had any option but to dismiss Warburton. The relevant law was amended last year to read: "lifting a player from the ground and dropping or driving that player into the ground whilst that player's feet are still off the ground such that the player's head and/or upper body come into contact with the ground is dangerous play."

The refs have also been told that they cannot make judgements about intent. It is too subjective in an area such as player welfare. Prompted by the appalling spear tackle on Brian O'Driscoll during the 2005 Lions tour, the IRB decided to act. Quite rightly the IRB decided they had to err on the side of caution.

The outcome of their ruling is that players such as Warburton will occasionally suffer. But better that than an innocent player suffer a broken neck.

Many years ago Wales fans painted 'Paul Ringer is innocent' on the Severn Bridge after the Welsh flanker had been sent off for a high tackle on England's John Horton. Warburton's name could be there by tomorrow morning.

The main problem is that refs usually chicken out and give yellows, yes - But by the rules of the game it's a red, and it should be a red.

"Anyone who plays the game knows it was unjust" is a load of bollocks, anyone who'se seem people break their necks from that sort of tackle knows that anyone who does it should get an immediate red and a lengthy suspension.

Even after Warburton's sending off, the Welsh didn't take the scoring opportunities they had.

The French only got 3 penalties and yet the Welsh are going home. They had chances to win, and didn't take them.

'Nuff said.

Points make prizes. Ask Sir Brucie.

Allez France!

I think we will. I don't the incident was comparable to the utterly cynical assault on O'Driscoll back in 2005 (and I hope we won't see a repeat of the AB's lies on the matter afterwards), but as the article above says, intention's got nothing to do with it.

Désolé.

I've changed my mind, he should never have been sent off.

Which means I'm now torn, because if NZ win no-one will ever hear the end of how for once they didn't choke and how they own the entire game of rugby and they only let other people play it and I really don't want them to win, but all that leaves is the Aussies...

Its a privelige not a right to be able to post in my thread about my game, Sometimes I wonder why I let you.
