Janssen signs: "He's going to need time. He doesn't have a ton of experience but he has the opportunity to learn behind Kane."

January (About 4 Months): "He sucks, get rid."

But Janssen/Kane and Alli have very different remits. It's partly the movement of Kane and Janssen type of strikers that occupies defenders and pulls them about that makes space for players like Alli to ghost into.

Pochettino used the very limited Lambert in exactly the same way at Southampton for players like Rodriguez.

If Janssen was truly doing the things you say would Pochettino really be hauling him off in the middle of what looked (pre-game) like a perfect opportunity/confidence builder for him, and then openly admitting he is 'struggling' afterwards?

Kane's all round play is still a few notches below his best currently but he's started to contribute goals from open play again recently. He also has the trust of his team mates, which is harsh on Janssen, but a bit of hesitation on the part of his team mates in finding his runs can't be help his chances.

I'm not giving up on him yet, I assume he will get more chances vs Gent and Wycombe, but in an ideal world I would like to get another ST option in for Poch to consider. My suspicion is that nothing will come up this window and Poch will toy with Dele as a false 9 if/when Kane doesn't play, especially if we transition full time to 3 at the back.

To be fair, when you say something like that you at least expect to see some progress from the player. And Janssen has actually regressed since he signed

So, I don't want us to sell him, but you have to admit he's been very below our expectations. And those expectations were not high. Everyone knew he wasn't going to hit the ground running

I agree he's regressed, and he has been below expectations. It'd be pretty hard to argue that. It's just ridiculous that some are already prepared to give up on him.

Sometimes when you watch a player you get a feeling for his ability. I remember watching Modric and Bale struggle a bit at the beginning but to most they knew were going to massively progress. Some didn't think so though.

Sometimes you get the opposite feeling on a player. Doesn't matter how much time they get they just aren't the quality needed.

Sometimes you're right, sometimes you're wrong but time is not always the right answer.

This has turned into another Janssen thread

So going back on topic, although Berahino has almost disappeared since that transfer saga, it's hard to argue that there's not another cheap option like him to "strengthen" out attack. Remember how much they asked for Callum Wilson.

I think right now going for him would be a very good decision. Son and Alli can play up top, but I don't think it's a wise choice.

What do we think the fee would be at tribunal? Under £10m and I'd definitely take him. Would be a risk but, under Poch, I could see him improving at the same level that Rose and Walker have and then he's a £20-£30m (in today's prices) striker. Would offer us some pace

i got about 15 disagrees for saying he was slow before joining us. Lacazette is the one we needed, or a player like him.

Unless his skills have completely atrophied due to not playing, then I see him as a great potential signing. Played with Kane effectively.

Large talent that WBA are not getting the benefit of. Sell now for fair price or rosk the trobunal. I wonder if he was assured we would be there if he sat tight? Seems unlikely.

I'm usually a die hard advocate of being patient with players but I haven't seen a single thing that makes me believe that Janssen will ever be a PL calibre player. I reaaaally hope I'm wrong though as he seems pretty likeable as a person and we did invest quite a lot of money in him.

Spoken like someone who didn't actually watch the England U21 games they played together, because I did, and they basically played like two strikers who didn't belong on the pitch together.

Apart from anything else, why the fuck would Berahino want to come to Spurs where he will clearly will be sitting on a bench most weeks ? Surely that demonstrates a level of stupidity considering he's just spent two years on a bench, he'd be so much smarter going somewhere where he can play every week ?

If you say so, but there has been a great deal of maturing in Kane's game since. Whether they could actively work together now is up to Poch et al, however we really wanted him back in '15, so Poch must have seen something. He's done wonders with the rest of the squad. Affordable as well, which is probably desirable considering the stadium and increasing wage bill etc. (I know that they have said that the stadium will not affect purchases, but saving millions on a comparable talent is sensible nonetheless).

One real plus point for Berahino that he would fit in a bit better to the 3-4-1-2 that we are playing with a the moment than the 4-2-3-1. He could potentially fill in for both Alli or Kane.

I'm not advocating signing Berahino at all but he went into a major sulk last season when we went after him and the situation then dictated that he would spend most weeks sitting on the bench. Nothing has changed has it?

From West Brom forum talking about Kane:
http://www.wbaunofficial.org.uk/showthread.php?tid=5007

Only the player Berahino could have been....

Kane has worked on his game constantly. I was never a fan, but he keeps trying to improve, went out on loan and may not have done well but used them as learning experiences. Surrounds himself with people who help him and his game and is reaping the rewards. Berahino may work on improving what he thinks he needs to improve, went on loan, and despite doing well got sent back from one for poor behaviour and surrounds himself with his 'gangsta' friends who all failed as footballers.

Talent isn't any good without a lot more.
