A lot of this bad attitude is from Pulis hanging him out to dry. Pulis constantly lies about players, he did it at Stoke all the time, he agreed with Begovic to leave him out as Chelsea were interested and next thing he goes on the tele saying Begovic refused to play, he likes to paint players in a bad light, he has done this on more than one occasion
Boy, am I still gloating over how we eviscerated West Brom at the weekend. I don't know how their supporters get out of bed in the morning.

As for JJ's point regarding Dembele's medical, I am intrigued. Very intrigued indeed. That would certainly put a different complexion on things.

We do seem hyper sensitive to a medical, Demba Ba and Remy being 2 we shied away from. I suspect we make a business decision given our history of players with long injuries.

Well, clearly we are doing something right. Remy seems to have spent 90% of his career on the sidelines in the last few years. Demba Ba has also been injured a lot. Although breaking his leg was probably more bad luck, as opposed to something underlying.

Long term no doubt but short term both had a big impact on the PL. Still having watched potentially world class players spend half the season out injured before in glad we have this policy.

It's not hyper sensitive it's sensible. Poch wants strong, extremely athletic players that can play for extended periods at full tilt. Would be stupid to start buying players that for whatever reason might not be able to do that.

Just for clarification I have no idea what happened regarding Dembele's medical, Im just speaking generally.

That is a pretty lazy comparison.

Berahino for a start is a lot taller and physically stronger than Defoe so is able to play the lone striker role to far greater effect - Defoe is not the most effective lone man, yes he may be doing okay for Sunderland but they are pretty shite so their standards are lower.

Defoe is an average Premier League striker who I don't believe has ever managed 20 league goals in a season and aside from goals could go completely missing at times, not adding anything to link up play etc and needing a big centre forward to play off most of the time.

And I lost count of the number of times he powder puffed a shot straight at the keeper...

I know people love him on here and rightly so given his service to us but there were a lot better strikers than him in his prime and he is a completely different kettle of fish to Berahino...

Defoe is not average the and has been a good player for us, we could do with a JD in our squad right now someone to bring an extra 15 goals a season to the table.

P.s pretty sure he has scored 20 in a season.

No we don't, prior to selling him he had a prolonged period were he couldn't cope with our system. We've progressed even further since then and although he still scores goals albeit for a brainless Sunderland side he wouldn't be able to cope with how we play. Janssen being a fine example...

I don't think Remy has even made his debut for Palace lol.

Good player, but no use if has become injury-prone.

I don't disagree although I don't believe Poch was on our radar for the two instances I was referring to. I suspect that DL probably made a point of it after having such a large medical bill after the likes of Woodgate and King had moved on!

I'd love it if we just come in now Stoke have agreed and bring him to Spurs.

I really feel he'd be perfect for our squad.

I can't wait for this thread to shut down. He's unfit, his attitude is questionable, and the squad has moved massively on since the summer of 2015.

I agree, he's really got to rebuild his career now.

I also think its pretty tragic. For all we moan about players not having the right mentality, Berahino was 21, a top prospect on the verge of breaking into the England squad, and Spurs were calling. His contract situation was a mess after his drink driving charge, and then they kill his big money move. Yeah, he had a contract with WBA, but he's a 21 year old that just had his dreams crushed by a man, Peace, that he's probably never met. Hell, in a press conference even Pulis slated Peace for treating players like pieces of meat. Then he doesn't want to play, his form falls apart, he gains weight.

He faces a real uphill struggle to get back to where he was.

Also glad it probably cost WBA 15-20m

18 and 15 are his best PL tallies. He has scored 20+ in all competitions twice.

Discounting the two partial seasons either side of his Toronto transfer, Defoe averaged 12.7 goals per season in the Premier League. So it would be an extra 12.7 goals per season, not 15 :p

He probably would have scored slightly more during his time with us if he hadn't spent so much time on the bench. He averaged one in three for us, but a lot of his appearances were off the bench (esp. when we had Keane & Berbatov), and he almost never completed a full 90 minutes. If he did return for a third stint (not going to happen), he wouldn't be a starter, so still wouldn't be expected to improve on his goal return.

His scoring record in cups is nearly a goal a game, so may we should sign him up just for FA Cup and EL :D

According to sky sources, Stoke have agreed a fee for him.

10 million, rising to 15.

BBC is reporting £8m, rising to £15m.

I really hope this is true. Aside from the fact that it's such a huge drop from what we offered, under £10m for a young English striker is laughable...shows how little everyone thinks of him now.
